Hello... a bit of a survey (for the DJs out there). I find the master tempo feature is rather handy for changing speed in the middle of a song but with most newer psytrance there are noticable glitchy artifacts when the function is on. I've got a pair of CDJ-100s. Anyone else hear some funny skipping when using the master tempo feature? Perhaps the algorithm has been improved for better models?

I have never once used Master Tempo and felt it sounded good. It's a smart function, but don't use it for psy... the glitches ruins it all.

when you're using master tempo you're resampling the tune, hence the glitches. A bit like a time-stretching sound, cos thats what you're doing.
i think most psy DJs would agree that master tempo shouldnt get used a lot... but the reality is that the audience is mostly too binned to notice

i touch the master tempo only when i want to put both tracks are playing beat to beat...
i even dont mix 2 tracks that have between them more then 5 bpm for not ruien all the track with so much defrent on the tempo!
after that i dont play with the master tempo until the next track i want to mix!
its dont do any good to the dancefloor!           db Productions

I never use Master tempo, even when changing the speed in the middle of the track. If its done not too fast, no one will really notice. I never try to change the speed of the track by more than 2%. With such a change, a change in tempo is almost unnoticeable

for me it would be complete nonsense to use master tempo, because i love the side effect of "change in timbre" when pitching down (sometimes up) to beatmatch.
that´s what makes it interesting to me to have different "vibes" when playing the track at different pitch...

I don't even know how to use the bloody thing, actually It was always one of this misteries for me that I was never able to ask because I didn't want to feel ashamed because of my ignorance.

I never use the master tempo - it definitely fucks with the sound. The kick gets a bit sloppy-sounding and it makes mixes sound much less clean.

I guess that means even the higher end models don't do it smoothly. Too bad - it might have its uses if it weren't for the poor quality of the resampling.

The easy solution is to spin full-on... every song the same BPM, never have to worry about silly things like pitch

AFAIK all CD players distort when their "master tempo" functions are enabled.
Also, I think pitching tracks distort at little bit, the more you pitch, the worse it gets. (this is what I heard somewhere).
I have noticed the master tempo distortion, but never the pitch.
Btw, I also use CDJ100s.

I dont use mastertempo, it ruins the music, its IMO even worse than playing mp3s.

if u dont pitch with master tempo too wild ( -2/+2 ) so its usefull pheature, dont forget that with master tempo u can fix the mix with dial jog and nobody will pay attention.           Believe your soul !

Not sure why you think that.

There is absolutely no need to use master tempo in any mix. If the right tracks are picked, then they will sound good together even if they have a speed difference of 10 bpm.

When needed to mix two tracks together, the beat match is done through the players (cdj100s) or with the mixer (lets say djm600) ??
Could someone explain to me how it is done?

Cheers,
Nir
