Been looking for a thread like this but didnt find one so...
Do you or dont you use the master tempo?
I saw alot of people saying that master tempo ruins the mix and i heard from alot of
people that it can make the mixes easier and sound better.
So what do you think?

Depends on your equipment.

Master tempo on CDJ-1000MK3 sounds okay.
Master tempo on CDJ-200 sounds like garbage.

Master tempo (it's not called that tho) in ableton sounds amazing.

Perhaps people should pressure those who throw parties to invest in something less out of date, then!

Nobody ever uses CDJ100s outside of the psytrance scene anymore. Every electronic music event I've gone to other than a psytrance party has had at least CDJ200, almost always either 800 or 1000

Never use master tempo, mangles the sound due to the algorithms it uses. Try adjusting it heavily and hear the floating bass and treble beginning to emerge.           -------------- Dark & Twisted Night Psy --------------

I tend to avoid it as much as I can.

When practicing at home, between more than a hundred mixes, as far as my ears could tell only 2 or 3 of them got any improvement with master tempo. However, I tend to avoid pitching more than 2.5%.

Try yourself and trust your ears.

i guess you cant beatmacth all the time... sometimes its maybe smarter to make a short break or something else... but its tricky this stuff when you gonna make a gang of people trance out and have a steady beat but all tracks you wanna play has different tempo...

I use sometimes when I have a short time to mix and the track that I'm mixing have a striking melody.

If the two songs are synchronized, OK, no need to use.

But if I have to be using the jog to synchronize, it is advisable.

I like it to pitch tracks in higher bpm regions... Sometimes it doesn't work and sounds awful but often I realize that a boring (or to slow for my taste) track sounds really exiting and rather different on higher speed. I think it's just a question of personal taste...
