Can anyone recommend some bands along the same (blue) lines? I recently discovered the band Portishead, their CD Dummy is mindblowing. Any more?

Yea you could check out: DJ Shadow's album - Endtroducing and Private Press, and you could check out U.N.K.L.E - Psyence Fiction which is kinda DJ Shadow + James Lavelle {Warp rec. manager} and various guest artists like: Richard Ashkroft {Verve} Thom Yorke {Radiohead}, Badly Drawn Boy, Jason Newstead {Metallica}, Mike D {Beastie boys} and some more but i don't remember.

BTW in the new Prodigy album there's a track with Massive Attack, and also on the Blade 2 Soundtrack there's Massiv Attack track, so i guess they didn't split.

ohhh man, massive attack!!!
They're huge, I got into electronic music by hearing their stuff too, like some of you guys.
Besides Unfinished Sympathy and Teardrop, I reckon Protection is also a very good song, and a CD too.
Though blue Lines is their best, imho.
And Portishead... man!!! they're something too. They worked on teardrop together with massive attack, for those who didn't know.
Have you guys heard portishead's theme of "to kill a dead man"? it's absolutely amazing.

and if mentioning similiar artists, what about Brian Eno? and some of Zero 7's stuff?
and obviously Unkle and Hooverphonic.
And also some of Aphex Twin's stuff tend to sound like trip-hop sometimes, don't they?

I've got some new names of trip-hop bands, I'll check 'em out and come back at ya.

Viva le Massive Attack .
cheers.

* Thievery Corporation
* The Herbaliser (a.k.a Coldcut)
* De-Phazz
* Lamb
* Sneaker Pimps
* and how could I forget... PLAID

have fun,
cheers .

Big thumbs up for Brian Eno.
Music for Airports and my favorite: Another Green World.

Lyri can you recommend specifc albums from these groups? Especially Zero 7 and Hooverphonic. I doubt I can find any of the others at my local music stores. Well maybe U.N.K.L.E thats DJ Shadow isn't it?           Both teams played hard

DJ Krush

Well, from what I've heard coldcut and herbaliser are working together or one of the guys in 'em works in both.
I'll check it out more thoroughly after the final match, okay?

and I'll write down the names of the album too, after the match, okay?

cheers .

okay, I've checked it out and it appears that The Herbaliser remixed one or two of Coldcut's tracks and they once worked together but they're not the same band, pardon me.
Other than that, Herbaliser tend to play and make more hip-hop on their latest works.

Here are some good trip-hop albums, as I promised:

"Psyence Fiction" by U.n.k.l.e (DJ Shadow & James Lavelle), it includes songs with Richard Ashcroft ("Lonely soul") and Thom Yorke ("Rabbit in your Headlights") and there's also "Celestial Annihilation" which is a very beautiful song, imho.
A very melodic, calm album, at least most of it.

"Smoker's Delight" by Nightmares on Wax(George Evelyn, Kevin Harper and Robin Taylor-Firth), a very light, easy-listening and authentic album.
It includes "Night's Interlude" -- a very touching track, imho, and also "Me + You" which is a very soothing groovy track, and also "Rise" which, imho, represents Evelyn's groovy music style.
if you like this one, you'll also like their following album, "Carboot Soul" -- an excellent album, which includes "Ethnic Majority" and "les Nuits", very very beautiful tracks. highly recommended!

"Becoming X" by Sneaker Pimps (Chris Corner, Kelli Dayton & Liam Howe), a very sophisticated album, inspired by the amazing album by Portishead - "Dummy".
The soulful, warm vocals by the vocalist Kelli Dayton gather beautifuly with the sensual stylish trip-hop sounds into a passionate mellow moments album.
Yery cozy for your ears and very groovy too.
Includes the songs "6 underground", "Spin spin sugar" and "becoming x" -- groovy, mellow and flowing. Try it

"Blue Wonder Power Milk" by Hooverphonic .
Although I'm not very fond of them, this album presents a very soft stylish alternative rock together with trip-hop influences.
Includes the tracks "Battersea", "Magenda" and "Lung", which is my personal favourite.

"The Mirror Conspiracy" by Thievery Corporation (Eric Hilton & Rob Garza), a very melodic genuine album, including the tracks "Lebanese Blonde" --
a very groovy track with mandolin and sitar on the background, and also "Treasures", the opening track, which is, imho, some sort of a nocturnal ballad, with a sweet bass-line and genuine sounds.

That's pretty much enough for now, yet, I have something to add.
I know we're talking about trip-hop, but I'd like to recommend you guys on Mogwai, a group of young scotish fellows who make experimental/indie rock with very authentic and genuine sounds.

Have fun guys,
cheers .

hey Lyri, nice one. I can tell that you take your music very seriously, I like that. At this rate I will be bankrupt by the end of the year. But keep it up
I picked up U.N.K.L.E (psyience fiction) and Zero 7 (simple things) today and they both sounded really good on the first listen. They still need to pass the 420 test though.

Mogwai is very nice music, very raw sometimes, but still extremely original.
Speaking of recommendations, two American bands that have been in my CD player non stop the past two months are Wilco (from Chicago) and the White Stripes. They both have fairly large fan bases here, I just have no idea how well they export over the ocean.
Trip-hop is basically irrelevant here I guess I am about 5 years too late.           Both teams played hard
