Off topic:
Upon first reading the topic of the thread, I thought it had to do with sexuality and length of certain sexual organs, and had a big laugh after entering the page. Just felt like sharing that.
But, let's hear some girls' opinions about this: "Many short ones or a few long ones?"

A set of a dj is like a journey, takin the crowd through a war!!! the build up, the march, the attack.......!!! all are stages - in my words!!!! & takin through these stages requires time, so 1 dj doin a 6hr set sounds like the only reasonable plan!!

hi pointy, hi psilocibino
totally agree with all what you said so far.
i remember the old school days when a party was conceived as a journey/ trip.
i loved to play between 3 and 6 hours, sometimes even more.
and yes, the main problem of short sets is, that everyone just plays his/her most banging tunez, which means that all the good tracks which are less intense aren´t played anymore and the interesting build-ups and downs, the story cannot develop anymore.
so, it´s up to the organisers to take care and think about a good line-up.
and, djing is an art of its own. only few are masters in it. don´t want to offend anyone, but please, djs out there, think about it. being a dj is more than just buying (or even worse, exclusively copying/ downloading) all the latest releases. it´s much more about creating the perfect trip.
a good dj has to spend plenty of time sorting out his/her music.
otherwise he/she is just a "product" (and believe me, most djs are in this category, unfortunately).
so, develop your own style and stick to it, no matter what others say. a dj has to engage much more in carefully listening to the music and burning his/her own compilations out of the bunch he/she bought or got elsewhere...
and this can be quite exhausting and wearisome, but it is inevitable if you wanna be a pro.

I prefer DJs to spin sets of no less than 2 hours and not more than 3.
However, I wont start bitching about a dJ spinning 1½ hour or as much as 4.
