The right place and the right time - when you're there, heaven on earth is possible. The two words which mean all of those good things for me come up really easily. Byron Bay.

Parties, psychedelics, 2 beach parties a week, one in the woods a week, yoga and other relaxing activities every morning, hanging around with one of the best groups of people I've ever met (and yes, many hippies there), perfect relaxation and no worries, as long as I payed for the campground. That's probably the one time in my life when I say 'everything was perfect'... at least, it was through a heavy psychedelic haze.

A friend of mine had something similar on some nameless island in Africa, Goa used to be the center of that lifestyle - before the hippy market was shut down and everyone in the world found out about it. In certain places all around the world, in South America, Asia, Africa, where living is relatively (very) cheap compared to Europe and North America, where the capitalistic world has yet to take a full hold on things, and most of all - beautiful places.

Getting lost there is too easy - you just want to stay there. You don't want it to stop. It doesn't get boring. It's nearly everything you ever wanted in one place. Compared to that - a person has day to day life, the shit job, annoying boss, parties once every now and then - but only when the schedule allows, bills, pressure, too many people telling you what to do, not enough time to do what you really want... Why not get lost?

I believe many people had experiences like this - at least in Israel a huge percentage of the young population travels around the world after the army, but there I met people from Brazil, Japan, Korea, and of course, Europe and the US. Living out this life is not a hard thing in the short run. Only a very few can do it forever.

Of course - this experience is a way of life - not necessarily connected to psytrance. It just happens in a higher percentage among the trance crowd... or maybe it's the other way around for some.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

well, it's difficult to live like a hippie and still have connection to the internet or US$ 300,00 CDJs... Unless you're rich. And I never seen a rich hippie.

it might be a little different elsewhere in the world, but here in the u.s. there are a lot of hippies that come from rich families (not everyone of course!). as the saying goes, the dirtier the hippie... the bigger the trust fund!           michael

hippies are long gone... i dont consider the backpacker ppl (or what ever u want to call them) hippies. just to hang out, dont do nothing and get stoned in some (mostly third world) country has nothing to do with hippie livestyle as i understand it.

maybe there are some hippies left in the us, but i reckon it must be damn hard to be a hippie nowadays in the land of the free:)

btw. just to space out might be nice for some time, but after a while its going to be a routine like working or studying and the magic get lost.

this is something I am dwelling on!! and have been ever since I discovered there is more to life than what one percieves through ordinary senses..........................................
nothing to say bout all this. AT least not right now, I feel like going to bed.

But most sincerely think there is a better life out there than most of us actually live, only that it is one hell of a journey, it is not easy to keep the pace required in attaining a well balanced life, free of suffering, fear, lazyness, ........its all more mysterios than I can conceive it to be, and it keeps getting heavier as time goes by.
But for sure 'djsid' has brought an important issue here, which has been the main center of my live, fighting between attempting or rather re-attempting to put into practice my ideals or living 'ordinarily' ever after. With crazy job, crazy routine, crazy sense of life, crazy alienating feelings creeping up into my think tank............and saving money, trying to dome my fears by saving up 'stocks' for 'winter seasons' ahead, sometimes I really feel like we are stuck in a big joke!
Yin-Yang!!

Some other times I feel we are stuck in heaven, but are not fully aware of it, or capable of living through such a glorious life...

in all these aspects, i have only to thank the many books I have read about spirituality, and the new wave of new age philososphy!! all very breathgiving.
MAGIC- it certainly is there.

I also wonder how much, having taken psychoactive drugs has taking me to believe in the possiblity of enlightenment as a continous state of being...and also, on the contrary, if it has made me have a distorted view of the path to enlightenment, or in other words the meaning of life...dadidablabli bla

I have a little story ;

A boy watching some elephant tricks in a circus show with his (middle-aged) dad, whom has (the dad) long time ago been sucked into the vacuum feeling of life, and has decided (or maybe had no choice) to live life through, in ignorance rather in quest for understanding...suddenly boy interrupts dad´s dull state of conciousness in middle of show and transmits to him his wonder and concern about why and how come it is so that the huge elephant after having performed to the joy of the audience some audacious manouevers (impressive tricks), is then taken to sit down in a corner and tied with a little rope to a little wooden stak, hammered to the floor. The boy wonders how such a huge and agile animal such as this elephant is confined to not moving by a small rope and a piece of wood.
Ofcourse the dad´s response to the Q. is null, flat and even destructive.

finally the boy comes upon the answer (to keep the story short), and it happens that as the elephant was born, he was tied to this rope, and as much as he tried he could not manage to pull himself free from the rope, he tried for weeks on end to no avail (no success), finally he surrended to his 'destiny'. ............and has not tried pulling free since
--------
I leave you to interpret the story as you wish.

well, to be fair there are a few 'hippies' that come from well-off families that are in it for the drugs and the 'image', but there are also many that have grown up around wealth and have learned that money does not necessarily buy happiness. there are many that have seen firsthand that living with excess (of all kinds) can be harmful and wasteful, and have instead decided that other things in life are more important than making money and living a high-consumption lifestyle. true, i am sure that a few people do it just to piss off their parents (lol) and get attention, but many more shed-off their middle/upper-class trappings in order to simply become closer to things that are intangible (i.e. friends, love, community, concern for nature & the environment, and of course spiritual growth...) and that money cannot buy. after all, it is only after you have lost everything that you can be truly free..
