Is anyone going to this event in Atlanta, Georgia (USA)? It is at the Masquerade Club (downtown). Tickets are $30.00.

Great time until the stage fell ... I was outside at the Ambient venue when this happened... Overcrowding ??? Good one, huh ??? Should have found a cave for this party ...

Ten people were treated and released from Atlanta hospitals early Tuesday after a stairway collapsed at a nightclub during a New Year's Eve celebration.

Andre Hochlenert holds his nose and favors his injured arm while walking out of Masquerade with friend Lindsey Woolwine, also from Chattanooga. Hochlenert was on a stairway leading from the first to the second floor when it collapsed.
The injured suffered sprains and bruises in the accident, which happened about 11:30 p.m. Monday at The Masquerade on North Avenue, according to administrators at Grady Hospital and Atlanta Medical Center.
The owners of the club, who were not identified, were cited for overcrowding, for not posting the building's occupancy limits in a conspicuous place and for blocking an exit, officials said. The cause of the accident is under investigation."

I agree. Actually, I said STAGE, it was a stairwell ...
The club is arranged in something of a spiritual motif, with Hell and Purgatory on the ground floor and Heaven on the second floor. It was a stairway between the lower reaches and Heaven that collapsed. |

Well unfortanetly this is what the Electronic scene looks like in the USA.
If anybody actually tries to make a decent party in a club you will know for sure that he is cashing in on it.
It is time to go outside people.

i'm glad that you didn't get hurt, although i just found out that julie (girlfriend of devin, promoter of the event) was one of the people that was injured on the stairway. although it may sound as though the people who organized the event are at fault here, responisibility lies upon the shoulders of the owners of the masquerade.
with that said however, i am still surprised to hear that the stairway went out at that particular time because from what i heard, the building wasn't even all that crowded yet. i played there last NYE for the same promoter and there were people absolutely everywhere, but yet the place made it though the night in one piece...
