The Doors music wasnt written by Morrison - he was writing the lyrics. The music was mostly written by Ray Manzarek ( I hope I pronounced it right ) the genious keyboard player of the Doors that had rich classical / jazz background. I wouldn't say that The Doors music is too psychedelic ( except of The End and few more songs ) but that is a personal opinion.
Definitely Led Zeppelin's music is not THAT psy too - it was mostly mississippi Delta blues based, since both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were seriously hooked on the blues thing. The only real 'psy' song that I know of their early times was 'Dazed and Confused' and I think it was more genious of guitar mastery of Jimmy Page then 'psy' song. Actually they were probably the only white band for me that could sing blues properly. Later Zeppelin did go for more psychedelic sound such as Kashmir maybe but I wouldn't call them too psy..
Pink Floyd on the other hand, especially before the 70's was extremely psychedelic band, that was experimenting with acid while writing and performing their music and didn't hide that fact too much ( check out Umma Gumma - Live in Pompeii for instance ). Also their first leader, before David Gilmour has joined the band to replace him was quite a wacko for serious psy sessions..
How can u describe the following part of a song otherwise...
" Yoooo Peeee u can't see meeeeee.... But I caaaan Yooooooo "
My couple of paisa

Oh and by the way, real psy bands of that time were ofcourse together with early Pink Floyd are - King Crimson ( check out Lizard, Red and ofcourse In The Court of the Crimson King albums ); Yes ( Tales from Topographic Oceans and more ); Gong ( dunno much of their stuff by names but definitely psy band yeah ); early Genesis ( Foxtrot and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway to name a few - there are much more amazing albums of this band )

I love both Floyd and Zepp, each in their own way.

Although I love Led Zep, I don't really consider them psychedelic. But Floyd on the other hand, well for me, Floyd were one of the bands that pioneered the psychdelic movement both in terms of their music and also the light shows at their gigs. Songs such as See Emily Play and Arnold Layne are just amazing. In fact, to mention just a handful of tracks does not do justice to them. All their pre-Meddle albums: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, Umma Gumma and Atom Heart Mother should be in everybody's collection Not that there's anything wrong with their later albums (well, not until Roger Waters left) but their earlier albums, particularly those with Syd Barrett are out of this world IMHO.

well never really got into either band to be honest... i will someday though... but just to set things straight, real psychedelic music (meaning the players all on acid) started with the Grateful Dead (if you haven't read 'the Elektric Kool Aid Acid Test' pick up a copy and see how it all started)
Ron Lyner- i agree with you; the Doors is probably the best psy band ever, so freaking nice to listen to everything they did (from their lounge music to their epic tales... eheheh).
I'm actually surprised nobody mentioned Phish either- these guys are the ongoing big dogs of the psy-rock scene at the moment, no?
Whatever you like, enjoy your music. peace |

you could kinda call them the modern day zepplin(very influenced by them)
I recomend any psychedelic music fan to check them out.

"Led Zeppelin has never been mainstream...Most mainstream people at the time couldn't stand Zeppelin.."
how can you say this being in the US? The standard clear channel classic rock station plays like one Zep track an hour. |

slyman604 the answer is in the body of your question... 'at the time' means when they were actually making their music.

it actually sounds like it.

they are too good.
