1. People leave cigarette butts all over the ground, and are impossible to pick up. Solution - set up a container/ giant ashtray with the big word "butts" on it to encourage people not to litter.

Believe it or not, cigarette butts are not big of a problem. When not in huge amounts, they can serve as a fertilizer since they degrade easily. The biggest problem is plastic and nylon. Don't leave plastic bags to roam because they end up in rivers, lakes, woods and fields. Same goes for plastic bottles. Only two things to keep an eye for...so make the effort. It's absolutely worth it.           the sky was pink

Throwing one's garbage on the ground is somehow acceptable in a city?
[/quote]

No it's not at all
NYC is one of the the filthiest modern cities in the world
some of it's neighbourhood are so filthy not mentionning the subway and the trash that lives ouside...

So gorgeous to walk in the morning and look at the rats jump all over those open garbage Bags

Some people should really not got in the countryside and bring their mess with them...

And i didn't even mentionned the recycling issue or the word Economy

Even the french people have two buttons on their toilets when it comes to flush it...

True, true... however this won't help the person think about their own behaviour, which was the entire point of this thread - to remind us all to keep it clean.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Robo, sorry that's just not true. Cigarette butts degrade very slowly if at all, and can for practical purposes be considered non-biodegradeable. We are talking about a forest here, not a landfill.

Smokers should put their butts into an empty cigarette box and pack them out with them. If they think that's too difficult then don't party in the woods. Simple really.

I think it would help them think about their behaviour if they actually see that you give a *bleep* even when they didn't. Not in a we're better than "them" way just referring back to teaching by example. Of course you're right, if they don't see it they would not think of it except maybe in the future when they're attending Litterers Anonymous meetings

@Colin - My *bleep* is not very deep in the context of my last post Just an expletive deleted but I just realized the pun now

Peace, Karo
