Vangelis's Tribute to El Grecko album is what I study with - even most orchestral music seems a bit too dominating for studying. No bassdrum or scratchy sounds, these things do not help you learn.

A proven music style (Even Mozart and Bach have too much rhythm) is called Baroque music. It has no set timing in the music, therefore you can listen to it but you brain does not concentrate on the form of the music! It allows your left and right side of brain to work in unison while you study and will create a much better atmosphere for subconcious learning, which is what you are looking for in an examination environment.

I agree with ya there as well essbee.....when I was studying for my exams I would play some of my mum classical music and some chill ambient stuff. It helps the mind sort out all that text that you have to squeeze into your brain.

ye i just had a psyche exam today. i found that studying with classical and ambient works well, i think it helps short term memories get transferred into long term memories. also i listened to a live set of son kite in the morning before the exam. and it really got my mind working. i think certain music sort of warms up your brain fot thinking, while other types of music will aid in memory processing.
