I hear you woody and feel you on the Avalon thing, but I am going because it is Xdream and if they have sold out, I really need to witness this for myself to believe it.......           assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

I have also spoken with the promoter in person and acknowledged his assertion that his intentions are purely out of regard to the artists wishes. Basically, seasoned artists like the ones who have graced the Avalon and those forthcoming have been doing this for so many years and would simply like a respectable compensation for their efforts. The promoter is in a position to make that happen, albeit at a less than perfect venue.

Read this to yourself several times and really think about what is being said here. There is a very strong subliminal message being put out by this statement.

ps the anniversary went down the way it did because the intention of all those behind the scenes was to have a party that all would enjoy, that all would feel safe and comfortable at and that would be based on love of the music and of eachother..

Now read this very different message. Which party would you rather go to?

i dont really think they have sold out YET. anyways i did the same 2 weeks ago i said to myself if IM have changed their music for good and sold themselves to the mainstream market i have to witness that with my own eyes! all i can say is I would have wanted to see them when they had the BP empire as their newest album............           www.instagram.com/ckloro

You know Woody, those would be the same reasons I have yet to go to the Avalon.........But, there is this little part of me that thinks Marcus and Jan will demolish all who stand in their way of spreading the vibe that they embody....They are true and that is known (from personal experience)......Their reasons for accepting this gig? I don't know....But the curiosity has gotten to me....I cannot fight it any longer.......If it sucks, I am out.....It's that simple...Unlike you, it's really not a far drive for me, so I have nothing to lose, but my absolute faith in Jan and Marcus' new direction....And that is something I need to know sooner, rather than later. I owe it to them to at least support them on their way out of our beloved scene. I owe it to them for all of the love and greatness I have experienced from their music/energy.......If it's compensation they desire, I will do my part to support....Just like when you part ways with a loved one and you wish them nothing but the best on the way out.........

Kin/Wooden - Unlike IM, who sold out rather quickly, showing there was no loyalty to the faithful/scene, Xdream and Kox Box are different? And it is that faith that is compelling me to go.....Not a choice, more of an obligation to me......

Wooden - in ALL of your posts above, I feel exactly the same! Exactly!

right on J

This reminds of the early 80s when Suicidal Tendencies was booked by a big name promoter to play a show at a mainstream venue in Hollywood for the first time (and get paid a respectable amount).
Risking a potential war between Venice gangsters and the LADS, the Venice crew showed up and took their stand in the pit because that's the kind of honor they had supporting their brothers, even when it took them to some shyster show in 'enemy territory'.
And there was no mention of 'sell out'. Brothers are brothers, no matter what they choose to play or where they choose to play it.

They probably know the kind of scene to expect so they charge accordingly.. i find it hard to believe that they would charge the same if it was another venue/promoter that they knew -no offense intended but you get what you put out there.... if they see that you are out to make money then it would be bad business sense to not charge a proportionate fee..           Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...

At no point am I saying don't go. I want people to go. I want it to be great. I wish Avalon were the best psy trance venue in all of N. America. If I were not getting on a plane I would definitely go as I have waited 10 years to see KoxBox and I could easily block out the trash which lurkes there week after week. I remember when Stratosphere came out. My small group of trippies (techno hippies) were all blown away by it. I waited for the promoters to bring them to Tokyo, but it didn't happen until the year after I left for Koh Phangan.
My point is WHY is the party at Avalon? Of all clubs, venues or outdoor locations that this amazing line up could melt down and destroy WHY Avalon. Everyone knows the reputation. Everyone knows the clientele. Now I read that people are suggesting or questioning the integrity of the bands. Calling them possible sell outs!! Main stream techno converts. Playing house for God's sake!!! What's next? Headlining with DJ Keoki?
So, based on the two quotes I posted earlier from different members, think about WHY you are going to Avalon to see them. I plan on eating a fist full of mushrooms, getting on my plane and listening to Stratosphere on my headphones. If you want to see me, I will be the one flying up in the rafters with a big smile on.           Elephants are cool, but wooden ones are heavy.
