Hi all

Just got a bit of a shopping list here

want something by Andy Statman - what album is best? I was thinking "Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge". Otherwise maybe the album he released last year (or was it this year) on Tzadik?

Naftule's Dream - "Live in Florence"
Is this better than the live recording on Tzadik?

Crakow Klesmer Band - "Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass"
This is their newest album, just released. Anyone got it? Is it good? I have "Bereshit" & want more

"Band of Gypsies" by Taraf de Haïdouks.
"Iag Bari" by Fanfare Ciocarlia
comments / alternative recommendations?           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch

Unfortunately I don't know any of the mentioned above,
but I do know and fancy the following:
Goran Bregovic, Boris Kovac, Emir Kusturica, Kocani Orkestar,
Vlatko Stefanovski, Mostar Sevdah Reunion, Dikanda...

You should definately try KOCHANI ORCHESTRA from Macedonia. These guys are really good.

You can PM me and i will give you few tracks because you can't purchase their music anywhere on the Net. It's a shame.

i found a free track as mp3 on this site:

http://www.isound.com/music/forty_thieves_orkestar/

for cd try for instance:

http://cdbaby.com/cd/fortythieves

never heard of this band myself either but the following introduction got me very interested cause i dig mr. herbert:
"If Matthew Herbert were to score an Errol Flynn swashbuckler, the results might be somewhat akin to the widescreen debut album from Forty Thieves Orkestar."

i would highly recommend the fanfare ciocarlia "iag bari" cd if you want some ultra speed gypsy music and taraf de haidouks
"the continuous adventures of taraf de haidouks the dvd" which is a real bargain.
it contains a dvd with a live set, documentary, photo gallery etc AND a audio disc with the more or less same live show as on the dvd. all this for the price of one cd

http://www.forty-thieves.com/

check their website for some more info.

another great klezmer ensamble is "kroke" from poland, they are just great:

http://www.kroke.krakow.pl/index_e.htm

a good compilation of electronic gipsy music is "electric gipsyland" on six degrees records.

without forgetting of course "shantel" and his "bucovina club" http://www.bucovina.de/

he remixed a lot of gipsy bands, his compilations are must-have
