to all my kiwi brothers and sisters! you have no idea how happy it makes me to see that there is a scene growing in NZ! i spent 3 months in your magical country last year and was dying for some psy with no real address to satisfy... The only place that somehwhat catereed to psytrance was the new year's 4 day festival at Visionz on the south island, not to far from from commerical "gathering". It was a place i wouldn soon forget and kiwis have showed energy there thats simply undescribeable by any other words other then virginal! Its so great to see this happening and that kiwi sound is growing and kicking! to you pioneers, lots of luck, love light and everything good! - Surrender.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

This is a brief overview of the NZ psyscene at present!!

New Zealand Psy Trance scene

The New Zealand Psy Trance scene is small but has rapidly been gaining pace over the last 2 years or so. There has been a presence in Auckland for sometime with the Cyberculture crew (www.cyberculture.co.nz) who run indoor parties every 6 weeks and engage in outdoor parties approximately from December to March. Their last outdoor party Dreamweavers attracted a nice International crew ( Bitmonx, Sally Doolally,Lunaspice and others). However their style is more of a progressive bent, don't expect to find anything too "full-on".These are the guys from Antix and Manta records.

Further down the island in Wellington you will find the "Full-OM" crew who have been holding regular indoor parties. Their style which makes a change from Cyberculture tend to focus more on the 'Full-On" and fluro side of Psy Trance. You can find them and their next parties at http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/fullom They are looking at getting some small outdoor parties happening in December. Check website for details.

As the new year approaches expect to find a nice (and New Zealand's biggest) Psy Trance party (with other zones as well) called Visionz. Last year it attracted about 5000 people in a stunning location at the top of the South Island. It is run co-jointly with the Cyberculture crew (expect a live set from Antix) but rest assured it is a nice party with a nice vibe and the main dance floor is pretty much Psy Trance from Full-On to Progressive. A little bit for everybody! Check their website at www.visionz.org.nz
and expect the party to begin on Dec 31st.

Lastly and further south in Christchurch is the Otherworld crew who are just getting their feet and running good, strictly Psy Trance parties. Indoors at present but hopefully we might see some outdoor action come summer. Check www.illusiondj.co.uk for more details. Lastly check the website for the Aliennation party(www.aliennation.co.nz) due to be held in February outside somewhere near Christchurch. It will be a strictly Psy Trance affair with collaboration from the Full-Om and Otherworld crew. Their last party attracted 500 up for it punters and probably more next year.

That's basically it for New Zealand at this present time!

definately, avenues open and the scene will expand... the south island has pristine unspoiled beauty which is perfeeeect for outdoor events...

hopefully in the summers to come (like psyfry said) there will be an invasion of israeli/s.african/french etc artists/djs and we can take advantage of the gr8 otudoors

Man, you guys are making me miss the NZ scene!
Cosy, and just crazy enough!

This British weather just isn't right for outdoor..

Glad to hear the parties are still going on at Galatos, dark and groovy.

the psy thing has actually been going on for about
eight years. Normanby rd saw the beginings right thru to 2 years ago when the "shed" was sold and replaced by a interior design store. The Auckland scene was actually bigger than it is now, maybe because people could not bring themselves to party in a new space and maybe because of other things. Cyberculture records has been at the hub for a long time and is happy for new people to come along and start new things up, as "cybie" now concentrates alot more on the production side of mainstream gigs... having all the gear they have.
Alot more should come out of NZ, yep, you are right, NZ is the most beautiful country on the planet (okay then i am bias) so there is more potential for bigger things. just waiting and hoping!

When I was in NZ around 3 years ago I found absolutely no parties in a two month period (even though I was in Auckland and Christchurch less than 2 weeks of that - so that might explain it), and heard psytrance only in one place - a shop run by this hippy chick selling all kinds of clothing and beads and stuff that you'd expect a hippy chick to sell (well, excluding pot ). Great to see that the scene has developed a lot since.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
