Hi there knowledgeable people of Isratrance!

I made a kick with Sonic Academy's Kick vst. And I am quite happy with it. But not just yet. I want it to sound less 'hollow'. It now feels to soft compared to for example a kick drum by Vertical Mode.

My version:

Vertical Mode:

Any idea's how to get it rougher?

sounds like it could use more of a "tighter higher pitch sweep" to punch it through more ###''';;;;;

also your feeling instead of hearing

well i only have crap monitors here but.
sounds like vertical uses the kick to do all the subs and the off beat for the .. traktor feeling

also he's kick is quite a lot fuller, probably passing EQ's and compressors multiple times. Shaping the different parts of a kick (not talking about sidechain yet)

Try to hear the env. of the kick of vertical, is more precise to yours. (pretty sure its not only from sidechain)

But your overtones seem pretty nice! and i assume you cutted the vertical mode loop from a finished tune of him right? then you know. mastering and stuff. dont be to strict to yourself

he has more "umpf" in his kick.
try to play with the knee of the pitch-env. curve.

the positioning of this is the critical thing i'd say...

In you example you miss drive in kick ie body punch and your sidechain sounds bad.Try make sidechain with muted kick with prefader mode and offset channel by -5ms or more.

Thanks for the answers. Track is almost finished so I ll keep the kick this time, but I ll try to get a bit more oomph into it next time by looking at the pitch env
Picture is helpful Fungophage!

Hypereal: why does the sidechain sound bad to you? Sidechain is done with muted kick.

The Vertical mode kick have a lot more body than yours, u need to tweak much more too archive that sound. and its sounds that it has some small reverb on it to, too make it fatter..

Seems the bass is bleeding a bit into the kick, maybe shorten it a bit, maybe raise the 80ish area of the kick also           Tudo que é melhor e mais superior em mim saúda tudo que é melhor e mais alto em si

I gave your kick some booty, by using it's attack section and combining it with a the body of a highpassed Bazzism made kick (also in G) that was phatnd with a tiny bit of Uhbik-P. So it 'sounds' the same, just a little thumpier.

Since I've 'borrowed' your whole bassline, I've took the liberty to re-combine both, your 'new' kick and your bassline.

Still, I think the kick doesn't sound too good.

Here's your bassline / kick:

EDIT: To hear what it actually sounds like, you'll have to download the file. The zippyshare player sucks ass.

EDIT 2 (in a way): I made a kick from scratch, that sounds a little more like what you're looking for. Just for you Maybe you like it too.
Again, I took the liberty to use your bassline with it, but the kick is solo on the end of the track.

I'm pretty sure my way of making kicks is a(n)(unnecessarily?)complicated one, (<-- Just like this) including the use of a bunch of VSTs and plenty of more or less useful adjustments.

That's why I didn't say anything about the way I made it. It's not a secret. It would just take me a long time.

On another note: I, myself am hoping for someone to come by to drop the holy info about how to make them easily^^
