I see this discussion is goin haywire...
anyways wat i wanted to say was, plz do not abuse things u do not understand... If u dont understand these things then leave it, why talk shite abt it? A lot of things we are talking abt here is genuine and there is so so much good stuff behind our culture & traditions ... I seriously pity these people who are going on abusing... Seriously u ppl being Indians, who shud be understanding our culture better than anyone else shudnt be talking like this...
But at the same time i do agree that there are many scamster conny babas and sadhus, and also even black magic... Many people have been taken for a ride, robbed, killed & raped... Worstcase they can do other kinda harm thru black magic also, everything happens... So whoever is looking out for such things does really need to take care and filter such people... There are conmen everywhere now... BUT, that doesnt mean the world is fucked up... need to get rid of such ppl and make this world a better place... Also u guys who are abusing, need to learn few pointers also...
Also because of the information explosion everybody is coming to know abt so many things thats happening around the world or things that happened, different cultures and traditions, advancements in science and technology etc etc etc... But i see with most of the people, they donno what to really make out of all this info, everyone seems confused... either they r accepting some things blindly or criticizing & abusing it etc etc etc... But cant u see ppl, every culture, tradition, scientific discovery & facts this n that etc etc etc is shouting one Big common message... I will leave u ppl to figure it out.... i would really really like to believe that u all can figure it out and u all are not so blaady dumb... its very very very simple...    ? |

There is no need to be mild and obedient. This is a bloody internet forum for god sake. Nobody is abusing anything. If someone doesn't want their beliefs to be laughed at, they shouldn't have such funny beliefs. Moreover, nobody is insulting India by slinging an egg or two at those naked maniacs covered in ash. I mean these guys are a bunch of unmentionable thugs and criminals who've been known to hound credulous foreigners, take them as a "student", and fill their pockets up with anything they can find. In return, they offer some abominable objects to gullible minds who shout and holler as though they've received some calling. I love my country, but that doesn't place it beyond the peripheries of criticism. Moreover, I think India has FAR greater things to be proud of than a bunch of those hooting swindlers. And what the hell is all this talk of black magic? And Sadhu's ability to perform it? Have we not attended school or what is it? This is exactly the insane thing about this psytrance culture. People can be susceptible to occultish nonsense and laughable fantasies. And I find it quite insane that anyone can talk about science, yet believe all this madness. |

( seriously i am not so badly informed as far as reading of scriptures is concerned, and the probability that i know what you are talking abot is not so little:) but anyway, may be give me an advice about the book that should lead me further. btw i also dont connect tantra to sex, others do. i connect it to no sex, if at all.

i dont think that they are known for taking foreigner students. the bhagvan osho or the other new aged practises for rich western kids were known for that and are still known. but not the sadhus. it is extremely difficult to be among them as a foreigner. just to give the credibility to what you write.
but may be your schools of india tell you that. thugs and criminals. hm, well whatever.
anything is possible, i dont know them so well. but i think it should make a difference for a logical mind, which you state you are, that the naga babas go into the water FIRST before the rest of the millions of indians. if they had this image you are talking about, this would never be allowed to happen. so i can actually only take you as someone who doesnt know hos own culture well enough or doesnt respect it.
i know the sadhus are looked upon as criminals in the higher casts, i heard this many times. but on the other side, some of them are feared and well known for their abilities to hack the natural laws.

Read some good books of Osho and you will be more aware than wasting your time with some charsi naga with bronchitis. A lot of his books are good. I'm sure anyone with common sense can filter the stupid stuff out. Oh and I'm sure educated Indians will not hang out with naga babas who hands random objects which belong to the fictional Kali. |

I do have to say that I'm honestly gaining a lot of insight on the Hindu religion after having read through this forum, not knowing much about it otherwise. For what it's worth I hope the discussion continues without so much of the bullshit, as well as the negative sarcasm and condescension on the side (something which I myself am also guilty of contributing to a few posts back and which I apologize for contributing to in a section intended for spirituality).

I've made plenty of mature, patient on-topic posts in other threads which prove your lack of idealism wrong, for example in topics you initiated (as well as others), but since you basically ignored all those, as well as similar posts from others, I gave up being patient and just decided to treat you with the same disrespect the way you treat other people on this forum.
As far as this topic goes, I don't speak Sanskrit and have nobody to really philosophize what the Vedas (for example) mean. When I read them in English they seem very esoteric and obtuse and I have the feeling I'm missing a lot in the translation from the original language.
I don't know much at all about the Hindu religion, and I'm not going to pretend I do and start talking out of my ass on the topic like you, Moki, are fond of doing in topics, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested, which is why I've been mostly silent about this topic until now. So, no, I don't have anything useful to say about the Kali topic, sorry. In threads like this that I'm interested in but know little about, I'm kind of limited to reacting upon the information I'm given.
However, I was casually browsing one of the Rig Vedas (in English) trying to make some sense of the translation, when I stumbled across this interesting passage...
"Behold, he who rules from highest heaven, he knows!
Or he may not know."
Seems like it's basically saying, "Your guess is as good as mine, isn't it?"
Maybe I'm wrong, but a line like that in such an old fundamental text seems to imply that there's basically no point in attempting to speak with authority about topics like these... because basically nobody really knows jack shit to different degrees besides what their own perceptions paint for them.
Does anyone else have any opinions on what a line like that might imply? |
