Namaste friends,
Well was just thinking about one thing and wanted to share the same. We dance to so many tunes in the party and some are real blasters. We do buy music or then get it from friends and then when we hear the one which we heard in the party, we go like ahaa finally I got the track and its by XYZ. So was thinking, how about putting a small display near the Dj box which would show the artist and the track name currently playing. I would love to know the music I dance on to. Would this be a good idea ??
Please share your comments.
Thanking you all in anticipation ..

NOT A GOOD IDEA

its not about the tracks.

first of all... one of the DJ's skills is to be able to mix together the music in a way that you cant easily make the difference between one track and the next. It would completely kill your trip if us DJs told you names of tracks because you would know when one is over and the next has begun...

and what about us DJs who sometimes mix two tracks together for 2 minutes, 3 minutes ? ok ok.. sure you could dislpay both track names... but by doing that we are missing the point. its not about tracks. its about weaving together sounds.

there might be a track that you have always hated... but played after a certain group of sounds etc... that track might add a killer aspect to the set... if you knew the name of the track, and remembered that you didnt like it, it will make your mind not like it even though your soul might love what its doing to the sound-space at that time.

it actually really dissapoints me to see people so focused on what track is playing. Because its the same people that when a dj like Neuromotor plays, where he keeps mixing and mixing and mixing, its the same people that love his style... and the reason they like it is because it moves so fast from one track to another, and or both at the same time, thats it stops becoming about the tracks and its just sound.... so whats with all this track name business?           www.facebook.com/DjJanux

I say go ahead. We're not blind sheep being lead to the slaughterhouse. Having access to that information is like having links setup on your web-page. It allows you to connect even further into the depths. Psytrance isn't like pure techno where they tend to blend more seemlessly by mixing the high-end (EQ) from one track into the low-end of another, psy is much more produced and has more potential for trainwrecks.

Anyway if you play a track that's so compelling that someone comes up to ask, that's fine too. However, just point to the CD jacket on the table and say "that's playing".

That idea would require someone typing in the track names before the DJ play his/her set. Now in my opinion that would also require that the DJ prepare the track oder before the party and therefore become even more predictable than many Dj's are today. And it would also kill any flow in the set and communication between the DJ and the Floor because premade sets rarely work simply because a good DJ read people's mood and play (choose the music) according to that mood.

And then there's the whole issue about how a party should be.

Should it be a party where people dissapear into the music regardless of the lack of screens with track titles? Hence the name "Trance".

Or should it be a party where we also soon see commericals on big screens and the DJ's/Artists names bend in Neon, flashing on the stage?

I vote for the first choice.

but if you put the title in the middle of the track than its not perdictable anymore and you dont need to prepere the track order before the set.

and than less people will come to ask what track is playing, they'll just wait to see it on the screen...

Yeah but who really care about the title except for a few geeks? People come to a party to dance and believe me thay really dont care what tracks are playing as long as it's music they can get into and like. It's only Dj's, artists and a few geeks that all the time are so caught up in track titles, artists names and the latest unreleased track. Normal people on the floor dont really care so much. They just want to have a nice time and dance. Exactly like it's surposed to be like!

And as a DJ I dont have a problem when people ask me what track I play. It's all part of being the DJ at that party. It's part of being a DJ and no problem at all.

most people dont really care about the title of the track. Most DJ's dont even know the title of the tracks their playing, and dont plan their set beforehand. Just have yourself a good time and dance theres no need to know everything.           We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. but thats the way people will get educated abt the grene dont yall think so??? or else where the hell will ne one know abt the tracks. there will be so many who will never ever hear the track other than at parties. is the music only for one time use. think it different to feel the difference... if people will know abt the tracks then I think it will help the DJ'S in the start and even to the listeners at a later stage.

huh? if they want to find out about the tracks so they could buy them or whatever they're are many different things they can do, including asking someone or the dj(after the set) which comps/ablums he played,or googling it, or whatever. they're's an infinite amount of possibilities. if the people only listen to the music at parties, then whats the point for them to know what the name of their tracks are?its not like they're going to buy it or something(since they only listen at parties), most people unfortunatly only download music anyway.
as someone above already said its not about the tracks.

if they dont know abt the track names how will they buy it????? and no one buys blindly. if they know the music they are listening then they will take effort to buy and it does not seem practical to refer to the DJ personally or someone during the gig.

yet it seems practical to force a dj to print out a list of tracks he's playing? and when they're are 2 tracks being mixed? What about in other genres were very often more than 2 tracks are played at the same time? Would you list 3 tracks? 4,5,6? if its computerized and it just shows whatever tracks are playing in the cdj's then i guess it could work, but dont make dj's go through any bullshit like writing what they're going to play.people who want to buy music they like, buy it, i really so no need to show the track name/artist during the party, its about the music itself, not how its labelled.

I have a better solution... someone should have the job of staying near the djs, and writting the tracks that the djs are using, and making a list out of it... then, whoever wants the list, gets it at the end.. that way you dont have the problem of some flashing thing annoying and distracting during a set or live, but you can still get the name of the tracks if you want..
I would like to have this job if I got some free cds for example

how about that?

^^^that works, much better idea, i really dont want to be advertised the name of the tracks played while i'm at a party, i'm sure some people including myself to a certain degree would find this a bit insulting
