Trying to live outside the classic social structure is not accepted in any society - and that's what the psytrance scene blatantly does. And yes, part of that is that a big percentage smoke pot. Does smoking pot make you a junky? You know what - let's suppose 60-70% use extasy and/or LSD. There are certain clubs in which over 80% of the people take extasy (and a large percent of those add stuff like cocaine to that) and those are not closed down by the police, the police never search everyone at the entrance to the place (well, this did happen in Tresor in Germany a while ago, but only after quite a few years of hedonistic fun there), and do not confiscate the DJ equipment. If the problem was 100% drugs, there are places in which it is much easier to catch dealers than in psytrance parties, and isn't it a bit more important to catch someone selling heroin than someone selling MDMA? The Karahana movie changed the police's attitude towards psytrance parties, not an act of catching more dealers, but trying not to look like idiots.

The politics of this attitude is very easy. What is said today about psytrance was said at it's time about the Greatfull Dead, the Beatles, Pink Floyd and a lot more at their concerts. Only now in the US it is fassionable to work against civil liberties in favor of 'personal safety' (legislation in the US has become less and less according to the spirit of the constitution for the last 20 years or so), and that seeps to other countries, especially the ones influenced most by the US - Mexico, Israel, and the UK, where the police defines the rave scene as it's enemy.

This is not a one sided issue, but rather has a lot of politics and PR in the mix here. It's easy saying only one side is to blame, but as in any complex situation, that is usually not the case.

Well if it was refered to my post I can easily say that I did not try to put the blame solely on one side but it's clear that when you see a post in this forum or other forums it's normal that peopel blame the Authorities every single time instead of looking at themselve and see what they do wrong

Thats why I try to balance it a bit and show that we do have a lot of the blame too why our parties are closed down and why why have so much attention on us concerning drugs. Face it.... Our scene is one big PR Machine for drug use.... And no I dont talk about weed....

Psytrance seems to be massively popular in Israel, and some fantastic music comes from Israeli artists, but Israel = Trance? I like to think there's a bit more to it myself!           "One nation under a groove".

I am from England and after reading that your other electronic scenes are not developed I would say that this is a good thing. I have listened to many different types of electronic music ove the years and gone to their parties here is my experience from each scene:
D&B = Many gangster wanna be's who start many fights, last party went to in London only a few months ago I saw someone get a glass smashed on their head and could smell crack as soon as i entered the squat.
Techno= My friends are part of this scene and the raves are rubish, mostly people wasted on K, not much dancing, nearly none during the day, people spend most time at the cars. Parties more of a social gatheing for drugs than a party to dance at.
Hardhouse= The sound is mainly from two labels and is very similar, music two fast to enjoy without alot of E or speed and this tends to be the place to see people doing vast amounts of these, simply to be able to keep up with the music. My brothers friends listen to it and their average number of uppers is far greater than I could ever take at a psytrance party.
Psytrance= Nice people, more organised underground scene with decorations, chillout, stalls etc. People always dancing. One problem would say is that there is sometimes a seperation between the different countries scenes and they should mix and match more to make varied parties rather than one style.
Dont get me wrong the other music is sometimes good but as a scene I am able to find the different styles in Psytrance,
Dark
Progressive
Funky
Full-on
Techy
Melodic
etc

and be surround by a generally productive scene at the same time

i personaly think that the scene in israel is huge. lots of raves and festivals every wekkend.
but
the scene is abviosly very premitive and undeveloped (deco for exampel).
no stage for new original artist. you basicly hear the same people (and most of the time even in the same location) over and over (and over and over) again.
i dont think that the israely crowed is ready for anything (even abit more) more sefisticated then anything they get nowdays in party's. they love to love it and love to complain about it. just give the avarage israely a pill and some random kicks and hes on top of the world.
and im saying that with alot of disrespect...
