We had Puoskari play suomi for us a few months ago in the open .. mixed reactions really. Some sat down, some left and some actually loved it.

depends on the environment also actually.....Would really like the old school goa scene to open up here but honestly dont think that kinda music would suit a club environment.....           ----- Hippies...they wanna save the earth....but all they ever do is smoke pot ----

Things are changing slowly. The slower side of trance has not caught up completely, though it is beginning to. The reason i guess the usual sonorities of trance are dominant, because not many orgs are pushing different types of music. Hence people are not getting exposed to it.

Its pretty much all the same shit music been spewn all over these days, because those acts cant make good music anymore, nobody wants em anymore in the international circuit and so India is their new market.

It's so surprising that even rare to find events with good psychill considering the amount of people who listen to it. (yea i know its not dance, but still its a subgenre of psychedelic music), just barring one collective who i know are doing it quite regularly.

Yes, we all like the usual forms of psy-trance, but its ideal to expose the party-goer to different kind of stuff to keep things fresh. And first and foremost, most importantly we need to have a strong local talent to keep it going!! Most countries do, i dont know why when it comes to India, only international acts are given preference.

There was something that i heard recently from a popular venue in the country through a promoter, which kinda really put me off and made me disgusted with the attitude of venues and managers it was.... " We dont do any Indian acts, only international ". They wouldnt mind doing some really unknown people from abroad, but they have big issues doing popular acts within the country!... How Lame and Sick!

There is so much untapped potential in our country, making or playing varied diverse music. I say, people should encourage artists within, to have a really thriving and healthy scene, than being disappointed with the overrated ones.

somehow related to what i said before.....psychill would not be appreciated and as effective in a club scene..the ambience or environment isnt conducive or supportive to the music..unless probably its some sorta open air club or somethin of d sort...probably its a reason why this sorta music isnt heard mucch.....chill / ambient / psychill / lounge is more considered a secondary genre of music or complementing another genre of music ( probably the main act of d day ) which is the headliner act or style of music...
basically wat im tryin to say is , it aint standalone, not atleast in India.....

it boils down to the monies.....is an artist of a particular genre lucrative enough to make money for the promoter and or the club...

I've love to hear some Oldskool Goa! Designer Hippies once played a remix of Spiritual Healing and everyone loved the melody. And when Bizarre Contact dropped the opening bars of Still Dreaming in the middle of their set it was awesome! If done properly Goa could work.

Drum & Bass gigs definitely, only genre yet that comes close to psy in terms of energy, but afaik DnB only has a big enough following in Delhi & Bombay.           Total Goa Trance Guide -> http://www.karangill.com/the-best-of-goa-trance---top-artists-albums-and-tracks.html

Yes... Understandable. But imo, you dont need a fancy porsche club to play psychill. Just need a good decent lounge with a nice ambience. If its open air even the better. We think chillout is like a secondary thingy, thats cause we think trance is like the pedestal. Tell me whether Shpongle or Total Eclipse or a Aes Dana etc etc are secondary acts? .. Yes i know your point.. that not at least in India, its not standalone. And thats precisely my point, because nobody is doing anything to promote it or put it across to people. That vision is lacking...be it for chill... or just to provide something good for the masses!!

There are quite a lot of sub-styles now within the dance scene with a lot of psychedelic influences...stellar production and with a nice groove. Wont it be nice to hear something different...?

@ Karan as far as DnB , here in bangalore too there is a decent uprising. Just at one venue though. But as you mentioned, i dont think DnB has that big a following throughout the country. Yes it is growing! Thats good...

But let me hear from you all, at least those who visit the forum regularly.... Are you guys really open to other styles which fuse our style? Would you be supporting if any interesting acts visit your city, rather than these spewn out chewed ones ?

other styles of psychedelia are always good.

but if u mean is india ready for other styles ? which sounds like is india ready for club type of commercial scenes , its been happening and u will always get the comm crowd , but dont think the real psychotics visit these places that often

I'm up for anything as long as its good dance music...I do listen to a fair number of genres, not just psy and DnB, and there's a lot of good music everywhere
