I want to share with you some of my thoughts about the International Trance Festival's expeirence I ve got for the last 10 Years.
To prevent any crytics about my words,I want to notice that it is my IMHO,and, anyway, from Solipce Hungary I ve been playing at least once on all weel-known and big festivals in Europe,or was visiting the others as a guest, and I know very well the inner and in-between stories of the organisations.
What I want to say,is that year to year the idea of organising such type of the events became not anything else but the BUSINESS.
From my point of view I cant judge this-cause any international event, which is happenning and in the end gives the travellers what they are expecting, takes a lot of man power, promotion work, work in the feild ,creation of correct well organised stuff çolaboration, and needs a bunch of money to invest,so,any work must be payed, its normal.

But I can devide International Trance festivals on 2 cathegories.

1st- Big Commercial Festivals.Big Names Line Up,high price for the ticket(100 Eu),but people getting all what was promised, proper human needs facilities, lovely food, non stop trance action, shows, good crowd,no problem with authorities. As the result of the big money investement, more of this organisations try to provide better sound systems, deco, and again, fasilities, professinal workers, and sure hi quality artists and djs.
And,as the result of that factors, the Commercial festivals are usually passing very succesfull, people are not complaining ( exept the music sometimes,but....it is usual story ,and the next year,or 2 yrs later the second edition taking place. As the respected and well known from the good side, the Organisation next year have more options, more suggestions from all over the world, and more colaboration from local authorities, satisfited from the work of the last year.
Examples - VOOV,BOOM,ATARIS,SAMOTHRAKI (1)
,SONICA , FREEDOM F.

2nd type of the Organisations-new born ,unexperienced low budget groups, that trying to organise the festivals without any ideas how to do it,and money to put in.( But with the big desire to make this money )
As the result, the line ups are really week,a lot of low production or amatour djs and musicians, poor deco, never enough water, food, toilets are dirty,a lot of mass between the crew, artists, security, and for sure not organised paperworks or permits.
( The weird thing, that this summer the enter ticket price on this Festivals also came up to 100 Eu ,as the usual price of the Commercial events...I cant explain it to myself)
And,as the result of that mass, usually the festivals are got cancelled beofre ( for the luck of the travellers who were still at home ),or how it have happened few times this year,(sadly) in a day of the party, which cause a lot of troubles for many people-including visitors, artists, workers, etc.
If ,by chance the festival is passed,it causes only money lost for the organisers, dissapointment to everyone, and bringing a lot of negative replyes and memories, which is not giving a chance ( thanx god !!) to the festival happens again.
Example - Omni,Freaky Dragon 07,Shamanic 07,Austrian festival in May ( or June ),Up and Down Fest,Samotraki 3...

As the advice for the travellers,I want to suggest to choose better Your Summer event-to see ,which organisation is in charge, and is it the really trusted one and what is the level of the festival according to the artists and co-partners.

I am very positive with the underground scene, unknown artists and young djs,and wish all of them only the best in their future, but if the line up for one BIG festival, pretended to be International, organised by one unknown organisation is full of unknown names, and it costs 100 Eu it is more looks like russian rullet, isnt it?Come here, pay and then we see what happen...

I dont think this is the way.

As the example of THIS IS THE WAY -the Finland Forest festival ( annaully in June )-few thousand people from allover the world, very nice crowd ,professional organisation, but they dont try to make an international profile-who knows about it,those coming and enjoying, the line up is really underground, and it is for 3 days.Super.No Ego,no Big Money and no Great World Success desires.

Hope youve got my point, sorry for the long post.

PS.I WANT TO ASK THE PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO MAKE A NEW INTERNATIONAL TRANCE FESTIVALS-PLEASE,DONT START UNTILL YOU RE 100 % SURE THAT YOU CAN REALLY DO IT AND DO IT PROFESSIONALLY AND PROPER'LY.
Maybe we just better stay with few good ones that we have now and enjoy?

2 DETOX.I didnt say that Samothraki was cancelled,it didnt passed well, cause there were some major unagreements between the local authorities + police and the organisers, which caused a caos and police riot on the festival

Generally speaking, I would say that I am seriously tired of all those ppl that notice the $$$ possibilities in the trance scene, and go into those incredibly grotesque ventures, in end of which usually the people buy tickets in vain and artists waste weekend travelling in vain.. And in the end of the day, you don't want to party anymore.

I don't say that fiasco can not happen to people that know what they are doing, but most of the fiasco's are of those, that just want to milk the scene for some money. And I am really tired of it ( its not only about parties or festivals, but wannabe labels and distributions and more )

Specifically tho about one festival I want to say few good things. The organizers of the Freaky Dragons fest at least as it goes for artist handling were the smoothest that I worked with. Everything eccurate and on time, I couldnt believe that actually. To see what happened to their event was very disappointing since I was eager to play for them.

Samothraki 03 was abit sketchy with so much police arresting people all the time, we were lucky smoking our chillum all the time @ everywhere

But I like the small festivals the best, small festival with cool lineup... Festivals wanting to be big, is not so much for me anymore.

And ofcourse, if you want to organize, start small -> then work your way up.. Stay true to all people involved.. And remember :

There is nothing better then a small party with good crowd and lots of underground music http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/113069/forum/15

and for the big festivals we have never experienced that of a good organized one apart from Boom festival !           http://studio-construction.blogspot.com/

Very informative update .

Annual bonding, isn't this? Let me start, there are no strict classification between organisers like this. It is not only travellers who go to party...

i haven't been to many festivals around the world but i can say that boom is for sure a safe bet.. i've been going since 2002 and it always gets better

so xfalabella if you're coming here next year be sure not to miss boom 2008. i think all the other festivals in portugal can't compare to this one           When I dance, I put myself in the DJ's hands to take me to a journey - the unconscious journey to reality

Thnx for the Good information, especially for those who don't have many events happening in their country.

I think it also depends on which part of the world you are living.

If I am living somewhere with many psy-trance parties (like germany, Israel, etc) , It would be easier for me to try small festivals with small investments and unknown line up of course.

But if I don't have many psy events around, then I must take some time off from work, plan a vacation, buy a plane ticket (sometimes 1000 US$ is just the ticket price) with ++expenses, then definitely im gona go to a big festival with big $$, well known organizer and good line up.

I mean why should you waste your time and money for some unknown festival and line up.

Anyway at the end of the day, it's always money. Good investment with professional people = better event.
