in terms of an echo compared to RME i actualy prefer the echo as well..seems warmer and rounder in general..with a nice colour..

but the drivers are not as good in the audiofires sadly..i had hikups with my old laptop. well quite some time back, might even be a laptop issue.

but i like the RME sound as well. Sure its good to test an interface if possible before to see if something les expensive would be enough.

no time to check the 50+ pages of that thread lol, but the stuff i saw so far its only measurements wich doesn`t really tell much about about the sound imo.

yep agree, still the most highend converters tested were leading on that thread, lynx hilo, lavry mytek metric halo uln8 apogee symphony...so it may be not totally bullshit.
i really like the orpheus sound and it ranked not very high, so yes i wouldn t believe that thread to buy something but maybe that unit is just colored in a way i enjoy a bit like my echo (that i enjoyed cause had nothing better i would say..)
for the most neutral sound and less coloration , measurments could be better than listening maybe dunno..

it even depends on what your looking for, i could imagine for room measurments it makes more sense to have clinical clean (sterilized? ) converters...

like having a combination of most flat gear as possible. this could even be a good thing for translation into other listening environments.

for measrument it s not really needed ,not really sure about all this but i think professional calibrate everyhting , the mic, the preamp, the interface, maybe even the monitors amplifier so their frequency response dont come into play for measuring a room. for mic yo need a calibration file but for the rest some software will do it i guess..and all this will be subbtracted from the measurment curve automatically.
acoustic is very serious stuff..we all think we watched some tutorials build some bass trap and treated or room ,all great..but most of us are probably far far from the sound of a high end room built specially for professional work
