Hi Cosmic Tandav
We've used this online company before to source our lycra for fests and parties alike...
http://www.funkifabrics.com/
One thing to keep in mind is obvious health and safety risks, for example, is it flame retardant? Do you need to spray it with a flame retardant etc. In Europe there are very strict health and safety laws that require us to show a certificate of proof to show it is flame resistant. Is this for SJ? I don't know the rules and regs for Nepal I'm afraid, but you can find out.
As for creating holes, shapes with it, just get it stretching to its max and see how far it goes, then plan where you'd like to cut holes, patterns in it and place some sewing pins to mark the segments you want to cut. You'll be surprised at how small you have to cut holes for it to stretch out into huge shapes when it shrinks back to normal.
Hope this helps mate and good luck with the fest
Edit: forgot to add, when tying it into place... you will of course have set places you will be tying it to, so just pull a piece of the fabric out and kind of wrap it round 2 fingers and tie a strong 'loop' knot into the fabric. We use a kind of 'strop' method on the poles it attaches to with a simple climbing carabina to loop the 'knot' you made into to hold it. |

thanks benji.
even we are doing a shanti jatra promo party here. so thinking of gettin some lycra done. although most consider lyrca to be outdated, thats why i am curious about new materials. wch will glow and can be stylish.
and also curious, is it possible to paint lyrca (white) with acrylic fluro colours ? which are not offcially UV colours but do react under UV lights.
Thanks for the info benji. |

The short answer is no
Acrylic paint is not stretchy, so it would just split and crack.
I guess you could airbrush onto it with thinned out acrylic paint when it's in position, but then you'd never be able to re-use the fabric.
You could sew other pieces of different colored fabric onto it perhaps, but you'd need elasticated thread... just thinking out loud
As I mentioned in the other thread, the best person to ask is Ffrancis, he's pretty much on the ball with all things UV

I should elaborate on that Cosmic Tandav
The 'scrim' I mentioned is what theatrical companies use as stage curtains etc
So if you can find some translucent 'scrim' you're on to a winner - like massive theatre curtain sizes
Hope that's of help mate - if you need any further details, let me know - lots of UK theatrical companies sell it, but maybe look closer to home to cut down the postage |

No idea
oh - and that pic you showed with the translucent fabric was lit from behind, so no need for UV paints, just nice elaborate lighting thoughts |

but hey, if you use uv acrylic, and it cracks when stretched, that could be an interesting effect in and of itself? |
