ok, lots of IM bashing around here.

For me IM was never 100% psy (except The Gathering, which I don't like that much btw), and that's precisely why I loved them so much !

A "commercial" track (put whatever you want under this label) with a few well chosen psychedelic effects (and God, they know how to do so !) makes me fly much higher than a straight-in-your-face 10.000 randomly-chosen weird sound blast.

Somehow, it's like the difference between science-fiction and paranormal. And it happened that I'm more into The Twilight Zone than Star Trek.

The way I see it, IM is infected the commercial circuit since 2000, not the way round.

Maybe you're right, maybe they sold out, but to my ear their music still sounds PSYCHEDELIC, and that's what matters to me (the size of their bank account doesn't concern me in the least). The day it sounds MTV, I'll stop supporting them right away.

Guys from IM have balls to create such a different music. It's commercial and "not-psy"... so what ?! It's still sounds very good. At least they have their own innovative style, not just ripped from other projects, what is very common now.
Until it's not ATB, Dj Bobo = it's ok with me

btw... same happened with Juno Reactor, and they're still very good either.

i don't think you guys understand MTV or the whole mainstream American music thing at all. IM will never ever make it to MTV. no vocals, no pretty faces, no catchy chorus....too hard to understand, too dark, too deep. Maybe they could score a video on MTV2's techno show or whatever, but never regular MTV. I'm just happy that The Crystal Method and Fatboy Slim made it that far, but have u heard those songs? very poppy, light, and fun.... Don't get me wrong, I would love for psytrance to become more widely appreciated - i think it would really affect people's way of thinking in a positive way. but the whole MTV thing is way too shallow and materialistic for psy....we're talking about the same network with a show called "pimp my ride" lol

exactly. The Gathering is the most traditional psy album, but it's also inconsistent. once they matured their production and became more creative, i think they improved greatly. i think CM and BPE are both very psychedelic, due to the amazing production, unique sounds, and wildly varying emotions.

There's a time when certain group evolves beyond it's limitting "underground" base.
It happened to Metallica, it happened to Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin (!!!) and Juno Reactor and it might happen to IM, GMS or perhaps Simon Posford.
Why? Some of them truely multy talented and can't for long satisfy their artistic wishes with our closed minded scene.
Good music won't be stopped by underground purists. Pink Floyd's "Dark side of the moon" and "The Wall" have sold millions of copies but nevertheless they are considered to be between the greatest musical achievements of the 20th century. I am not saying that the next IM album will sell 25 million copies. But if you'd say to Liam Howlet (Prodigy) in 92' that his 3rd album will sell milions in US, he'd probably slap you in the face. He was as deep in the underground as most of your most appreciated artists in the psy-scene.
My 3 cents.

if I were to compare lets say...bust a move...to deeply disturbed...it's unquestionable that bust a move is like 10 times more psychedelic than deeply distrubed...

I don't listen to IM ever since the last album was released...and yes it's because some tracks sound like MTV pop music to me and that just doesn't give out a nice story to me like the classical mushrom or bp empire did...           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

Violet vision rmx to cities of the future track is great POP music imo.. I loved it, I liked the radio edit and original mix too, actually, i like infected mushroom, they make some good melodies, leads, kick and bassline for my taste, BUT i HATE when they try to put METAL SCREAMS like on "now is the time" and on "cities of the future"

Some even heavy guitars sometimes is good for the psytrance although the right way to use guitars in psytrance imo is just like psycraft did in his last album

But these screams seems like a joke to me, its like they fucking the whole track cause of 10 seconds hehe

My opinion guys, peace!

And now, with the whole IM in LA phase.. We will fo'sure get some more radio friendly tunes. Not saying it WILL be bad.. But different, i hope. Infected with Chrystal Method could get interesting. Let's hope for the best =)

Who knew that that first song that he sung will lead to many more and the way down to the abyss for my all time favorite psytrance act .           Skate 0R Die
