Wow... Getting Tear gassed in line?? Damn... I had heard some horror stories about those so cal parties, which was why I had never went to one till I was turned onto an underground outdoor. (Thanks Tom)

All in all, the massives seem to paint the worst picture of the electronic music culture. More power to IM for wanting to spread their music far and wide, but I wouldn't touch this with a Ten foot Pole or a Six foot Norweigan...

How long do you think it'll take before IM does a track with Crystal Method?           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Figures... I can imagine that there's gonna be a Fatboy Slim and IM track too...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Ok you kooks, here it is. As half my family headed up north to represent LA gangstas up at Eeel River, I hung back at the crib to be sure we were represented at this event. and I have to say, I'm really glad I went.

We got there for the last half hour of IM who were playing in one of the big spaces. I walked in and couldn't believe my eyes. The place was packed, thousands, and EVERYbody was going off. Loving it. I was witnessing Erez and Duvdev humbly Infecting this crowd of unsuspecting people, turning them on to something new and exciting and which may even lead them down a road that will change their life. I know it happened to me when I discovered this music, also with Infected Mushroom at my first psytrance party at a little venue in Pomona many years ago.

So here they were, up on that big stage, turning thousands of people on to that trademark Nord Lead sound and that kick drum...Wasting no time I made my way up to the front, pushing through the crowd, my fist pumping the air with that familiar feeling.
I took off my shirt and held it up. PsyTribe facing Erez, and when the light shined on it he nodded his head and smiled in recognition. Our smiles were ones brothers would have upon finding each other in a crowd.

As they reached their last track, going into overtime, Duvdev took the mic and they absolutely blew the place up with 'I Wish'. I saw them play at that club in Hollywood not too long ago and I was standing there with a smirk when they did this song (calling it a song, not a track). But in this place, with all these people going off, it rocked. Big time. Duvdev, with his shaved head and accent, drove the crowd wild. There couldn't have been a more perfect track to end their set with. Melodic 80s style , driving sound, great buildups. Duv was making mock pistol shots in time with the kick during the breakdowns. truly badass.
What was really amazing to me as well was they ended it not with one big orgasmic bang, but rather, toned down. They actually let the people down slowly on a much more subdued note. I felt a real humbleness in them for doing that. It showed they weren't about being rock stars. That they only wanted to share their music and nothing else. For that I give them enourmous respect and props. All the crap that people say about them is totally misguided. To me it appeared they are simply evolving not just their music, but psytrance as well. Taking psytrance, and not just themselves, to the rest of the world. They came from psytrance. Their roots won't go unnoticed. People who are on a quest will look into it. And some of these people at this place will eventually be coming to our parties, sharing in what we experience and what we love and find rewarding. My handful of Psyfix flyers went quickly.

The rest of the scene was pretty cool. The main stages were indoor, but outside between the stages there were booths of crews or record labels spinning their music and selling CDs. So WTF. Where is the psytrance booth? Every other electronic music is represented here except ours. Imagine, we could have a tent set up, with everyone of us coming to spin. Any style. In fact, the more styles to represent, the better. There was a reggae ice cream wagon, the dj inside speakers outside next to a couple palm trees playing everything from rootsy classics to the new dancehall style. There was an black booths spewing 160+ bpm with guys dancing slow motion. We had a great time 'grazing' the smorgasborg of music at this event. Sampling what was offered, getting drawn in and dropping ass to heavy bass and tricked out beats, or hearing something sounding really close to psytrance and finding out it's 'old school techno'.

We caught the Donnas (all girl soft punky from SF) who were fun and rocked to a really small crowd and stayed for who we thought was the headliner - Ozomatli. Dissapointing. They were in the big room but only had an 1/8th the amount of people as IM had. The sound sucked. Too boomy cos not enough people in that space. (The sound was great for IM, btw). They should have been outside next to the taco wagon. Seriously.
I don't know what others would say, but to me, Infected Mushroom blew away all other performers at this event. Both in the numbers and energy of the crowd. That's saying something. Crystal Method? We were in the room where they were going to play but as it began filling with kids sucking pacifiers for the act before them (who were boring as hell) we split.

Oh, and I think I saw some familiar faces. Trevor up near the stage, arms in the air going crazy to IM. DJ Mike was there too with his tye dye shirt noodling away on the dance floor, happy to be here even though he couldn't make it to Eel River. And Bhodi, you were there Decked out in full raver outfit! big pants, bracelets up to your elbows, necklaces and your hair in pigtails! I swear it was you man!
