man trance has become so commercialized, but why does this surprise people? If it is profitable, someone is BOUND to sell it. Unavoidable. What are the consequences of this????? To me it sounds like you think trance just became commercialized only recently. It has been this way for a while, and there are no 'consequences' of this in terms of trance losing its meaning or spirit. There is still the underground scene and it will not dissappear because some people have decided to make trance music commecial. Yeah I think the commercialized scene has lost the spirit and the message but this is not going to threaten the trance that YOU love.
The trance scene has started to go in two different directions imho- one is the true psychoactive music that carried with it a message of spirituality, compassion, and PLUR, which are not designed by its nature to make money, then there are the massive parties thrown by Spun records etc, this to me is just dance music with really cool sounds. I happen to enjoy both, the big parties have beautiful deco and visuals and the highest production level, and has great energy- I have a blast dancing but to me it is not psychedlic.
I was amazed to see the huge trance 'market' here in Tokyo, and it blew me away. Tell you the truth I did not like it at first, but have come to accept it for the most part. Wether you like it or not it is happening. If you dont like it you just dont have to go, and help support your local undeground scene instead. But one thing is that with all the money you can go to parties with amazing production that you simply would never find at an underground party. Speakers the size of buildings with pumping bass that shakes your organs and visuals you have never seen before anywhere else, and a lineup you wouldnt believe. Example was the new years party in Tokyo thrown by TIP with GMS, Shpongle, 1200 mics, Etnica, Wrecked Machines, Dmitri, and Hallucinogen. The party was 100 US dollars and there were ten thousand ppl there. A million dollar party! Still blows me away. The scariest thing was you walked out of the party feeling you got more than your hundred bucks worth.
Point is, don't stress. What they are doing is something different from what you like, and it will not threaten the scene you love.

much more to this commercialization of trance, maybe we can make a thread of this issue later- one thing that upsets me about some of the large parties is when uncompassionate organizers dont care about the dancers safety and allow fights to break out which often hurts innocent ppl as well. But maybe more on this later...

I dont think none of the people who really like and respect the artist who they listen to will have a problem with the artists making money off the music they live on. the listeners are somewhat responsible for this as electronic music is one of the "genres" that is greatly downloaded off the net. with people not buying original cd's and instead downloading off the net, much of the artists cant make music something which they can live on.
but I myself would not be happy to see psytrance artists on mtv. maybe you can think I'm creating an own paradox in myself but i just dont think psytrance culture and commercial mtv culture fits in together. it would just turn this happy community into one where too much emphasis on $$$ are made.
a balance is ideal of course, where the artists earn the money to live, but also dont forget that the music is not made only for the money. and as I said, it is to a large extent upto the listeners to support for the artists. it is a two way relationship. the listeners must not get carried away with the "pleasure" of getting hold of the music freely, while the artists must not forget how this music started and respect their roots.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

I think that's ok, Simon Posford was with Sony at one point, and I think Entheogenic are also on Sony now.

Nick Barber (Doof), Celli Firmi (Earthling) and Xavier Flux released an album on Sony too, in Mexico. It is called Vatos Locos - Welcome 2 Da Barrio. But that album was never released anywhere ouside of Mexico! Good album by the way.
