I've got some travelling questions

Flying to Delhi 1st of Jan and I'm after some suggestions on where to go from there. Don't have that much time, just 18 days. What I'm mostly after is drinking/smoking/chilling/swimming. So where to head from Delhi and how and will it cost an arm? I've been thinking of the island of Diu in Gujarat. Anyone ever been there? Anyways it doesn't really matter.. all I need is a nice beach
Should I perhaps head to Goa instead? Etc etc..

Okay, but it's rather quiet isn't it? Not that it's necessarily a bad thing

Do you reckon Gokarna is any cool? It's another place we've been thinking.

Also do you think it's worth it to carry a surfboard from Finland all the way there or just rent one? Can't be that expensive there can it?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

@traveller....to be honest...if u want good beaches u can head all the way south to pondicherry..which will be less crowded as compared to goa...or maybe even gokarna.....

i have never been to gokarna at that time of the year so i really dont know how it is...but a couple of my firneds are headed to gokarna for xmas will let u know how it is then so you would know by the time u arrive in india....

if its only beaches your after then the entire south coastline has awesome beaches...and hardly explored by tourists....

about surfboards...well thats a dodgy situation....coz carrying it around india will be a bitch if u want to keep moving....but the other problem is renting surfboards is not really rampant in india...i dont think i have seen more than a couple of people with surfboards in goa....but u can rent jet skis etc for a piddle of an amount....

any more info feel free to ask..
cheers...

Kumbha Mela is something that I want to experience. However this is not the time for it. Man I'm in India for only 18 days and I haven't swam in a Ocean for well over a 100 days. It's the beach that I'm after this time. Also I reckon my friends would not be too delighted about it. "What is this hippie bs?"

Are you saying that Gokarna's beaches are not good? From the pictures I've seen the place looks like a paradise. Also the more south, the more we have to travell..

Travelling with a surfboard is always a bitch. But yeah, I think I'm not taking it with me. If I can't rent one.. I don't care. Then I just chill more

Would love to get a small update on how Gokarna is this time of year. Like are there any parties ever? What do people do at nights, etc..

Thanks for the info guys

traveller, if I were going someplace in hopes to surf (which I do whenever I can!) I scour the web for info. I pulled up this site: http://www.surfingindia.net/

Looks like there's some nice spots down there! damn I'm getting excited myself! maybe an Inida trip is in store for me!

But my big (OT)question - you surf in Finland? how? where?!
Pardon my enthusiasm but I have met very few surfers into psytrance (and vica versa) which I find strange given the similar nature and vibe.

Kovalam beach is gorgeous! The surfingindia site claims its the best known surf spot in India too. Fantastic seafood, amazing massages and not too far from the Kerela backwaters where you can stay on a boathouse.

I was there over a summer so it was pretty quiet. No parties in that side of India but a great nature trip.

Heh I'm not much a surfer really (yet). I do it when travelling and given the chance. Spots in Finland are in rare and from what I gather rather shitty, at most like 30 surf days a year.

But it's really, really far away from Delhi isn't it? Like twice as far as Gokarna, right? 18 days isn't that long a time.

Hmm.. eh I think I settle with Gokarna even if there's no surfing there. Then I go diving and stuff

Also I'm not that hot about beach psy parties every freaking day but wouldn't mind a few parties while there.. Hmm

How's the chilling scene? I take it smoking is rather widespread in India and as long as you don't advertise it to a cop all should be fine?

Oh and what happens if you're unlucky enough the get caught with little green/brown? A small bribe? Big bribe? About?

e. How is the shark scene in Gokarna? I'm not too hot about swimming in shark infested waters..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
