I remember seeing Leonardo playing frisbee on a private beach in Malibu one summer soon after Titanic came out. pudgy belly, pasty white and still an innocent kid. never thought he'd become the hard actor he is now.

(there's a reef out there where the waves break really good on the right swell and we'd climb the fence and surf it when the security patrol isn't around. ahhh life in LA).

Shouter Island was better.

I think it lacks some psychological background on all the characters.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

That's because there is only one character there, whose background is important. And the whole movie is pretty much about this. At least that's the impression I got. DiCaprio's character is the steak in this dinner. Other people are potatoes. Having said that, the English forger (forgot his name) is my favorite character in this movie.

I am sure it's going to be compared with Matrix - just because Existenz is much less known.

It's actually mostly Existenz with a bit of Matrix and a touch of Thirteenth Floor. And, as I discovered last night, a dash of Shutter Island too.

Existence agreed.
What about control.. all they tried to do is control the subconscious part of a brain by giving it an idea, as and well they saw fit to their need.
That's the beauty of these movies, and that's what I have found is the best part about discussing it with everyone here, you guys can find out so many meanings to a movie.

Well I saw Inception last night.
Decent movie for its kind. What kind? The constant boom boom boom kaboom kind.

""""""""""" beware of spoilers *********************

A cleaver idea (shared dreaming and digging in the dreaming mind), decent entangled development (dreams within dreams), shallow message (confront your guilt and you will be free + it's not good to live in the past), Not much of a plot (not much really happens for 2.5 hours movie, and how things will go is quite clear less then half way through), superficial undeveloping cliched characters that you can't identify with (the only ones with minor depth are kob & his wife, but how much can you identify with a couple that can create the world of their dreams for 50 years and all they build is a world of endless gray skyscrapers and in the end the husband gets the wife to suicide so they can get out of it), a very Hollywood American ending (the guy sees his kids!), good effects and some very nice scenery (that fortress in the 3rd level & the collapsing couple dream world), and well.... a lot of boom boom kaboom all the time (It was so offensive to my ears that I actually felt a big relief when we were out of the theater, and I have a history with booming...).

""""""""""" end of spoilers *********************

In short, nice time passer, but don't believe the hype!

Too long, too many unnecessary action scenes (everything on that snow level is so boring) and poorly executed.

Interesting is that I feel that in the end his kids are using the same clothes they were using through out the movie, which opens the possibility that he was dreaming and his wife was right.

Any movie is at least in part what a spectator makes out of it.
To me, it was about the tortured mind of DiCaprio's character (like most movies with DiCaprio, in fact). All other characters, all the Silicon Graphics and super-duper audio - those were just a filler, a backdrop. If you look at it this way, I think they did a good job.

The problem is that the entire audio-video bonanza at times was assuming a life of its own and distracting from the main point of the movie. Such an abundance of kaboom is more fitting in a Van Dam movie, where it’s necessary to conceal a weak plot and non-existing acting. Here I agree with most of you.

On the other hand, you’d kinda expect this type of dreams from those characters under those circumstances, wouldn’t you?

That was exactly the intention.
Hence the last part, where the totem appears to stop spinning, but it ends without showing it precisely.

Lost of different interpretations for this movie.
