A few weeks ago Iboga finally announced a new compilation - about 1 year after the mindblowing "FX". Last week it finally landed on the shelves at my local recorddealer, and so it was off to purchase this new masterpiece: "Puzzled".

First track is with FREq from New Zealand. Until recently an unknown person on the psychedelic scene, but now one of the hottest progressive acts around - and with an album on it's way on Iboga (his second). "Return To The Masters" has some groovy percussion, is extremely heavy and there's no doubt in my mind that it's FREq producing.

2nd track is from Tristan and the Green Nun Dick Trevor. At first I was a bit surprised to see a track from them released on Iboga, and it does stand out on the compilation. That's not a bad thing though.

"Space Boy" with Krüger and Coyle is a nice fat progressive track - much better than their (imho) massively overrated "The Witness" released back in 2002. Deep and groovy.

Sativas "Circular Structure" is one of the weaker tracks here. A light crisp track with potential, but unfortunatly it fades a bit between all the other bombs.

Luckily FREq is still around, and in collaboration with Spherical he made "Suzuki Son" - probably the biggest highlight here. Kicks off dark, deep and heavy, and slowly gets brighter. Amazing.

Next up is BLT's remix of "Free As We Are" from Antix' debutalbum, and he made an awesome track even better. A bit more dancefloor oriented than the original, and at the final it's very melodic - somewhat oldschool.

Good ol' Jaďa is back with "Hypnostatique", and yes - it's not as good as "The Peter Pan Syndrome", but still a beautiful shiny track for the morning hours.

Last track on the CD is from the danish duo Frogacult. They have a quite unique sound, and it really shines through here. Although it doesn't really stand out from their previous releases, it's still delicious, and I can only look forward to their coming album.

Conclusion:
"Puzzled" is a release you should pick up, if you're into progressive psy and progressive house. "FX" was one of the best compilations last year, and "Puzzled" will probably also be up there in 2004 - a solid release from Iboga.

This is absolutely the best compilation from Iboga rec.!!!!! There is no track that I don't like. Each song has quality sound and prodution. The album is too groovy psychie to sit down and give it listen. Especially, Freq-Return to the masters and Freq vs spherucal-Suzuki son are the shite!!!!! What an album!!!

Yeah, Aje! Return to the masters is total kick ass!!!!           Tell me what you listen, and I'll tell you what you are.

Well, another great compilation from Iboga. One that you can hear from beginning to end without having to skip any track. But I have to stand out my favourites: Krueger and Coyle "Space Boy", Sativa "Circular Structure" and Jaia "Hipnostatique".

Well done guys....

P.S.: Can someone please tell me the words in the woman's voice sample in Krueger and Coyle's track. I keep hearing "can you feel my tits" Am I hearing too much??

its a nice cd but i feel same like zombie its a little bit too noisy & trancey for my wasted ears but still a cool gem , the first track of Freq really gets me on , and "Space Boy" is just delicious but someother tracks really sound little oldschool to me , i was looking forward to hear the blt remix to Antix but did not really dig it ,was everything else then fresh to my senses , anyway like i said still a good buy for anyone ,..

Lovely comp. Not the best i have heard in years but with out doubt a superp comp. Both Freq tracks are quite good... Nice BLT remix, much better then the original imho. Jaia is not that good a track, i would rate it as a step backwards for them...           "Love is a way of life"

The Jaia "Hypnostatic" track was released by Flying Rhino on the "something for the weekend" compilation in 2001..

from zombi i can understand a lack of interest as he left the trance scene ages ago, but not quite sure what to make of alex candy. if this is too noisy and trancey, i'm not sure where that leaves wizzy noise;)

if you want the latest in progessive house or tech house, then of course i wouldn't get your hopes up for this release. and i wouldn't look in the direction of trance labels either. (instead you should look toward 3beat labels, SAW, zero tolerance, Sog and a number of good swiss labels, etc.) but if you still like trance and want to see something that is psychedelic in an old skool way but with huge groove at the same time, then this release is smashing. i am bored with most other trance releases and buy mostly house/techhouse/breaks because the ideas and production are so much more advanced, but this one shows to me there is still life left in trance!

after many listens i think the freq and shativa tracks are the coolest, with space boy not far behind. make sure you listen to these on good speakers to catch all the details

im quite back to psy i last month or two, played some pure psy progressive sets, enjoyed it very much and got good feedbacks. thats just like i said "for my minimal opinion...", what to do im realy dig minimal music, trance or house or techno..
in a same week i got shaman album thats is for sure psytrance and enjoy this one alot, some great tunes and some realy progressive.. as for a puzzled so its less good imo than last iboga releases like antix album and phony album, its just lack for me a clear sound and some minimal grooves.           Believe your soul !

very nice compilation
the hilights for me are both freq's tracks , "suzuki son" is absolutely amazing
and also the frogacult is really great, crystal clear production, superb synthlines , one of their best track for me
the rmx of antix by blt is nice but i really prefered the original wich is for me one of the best tracks of antix album , the rmx win in emotion but loose in groove/deepness/hypnotism

hi russ,

i really don't see why you take these comments so personally...the fact that my label often releases "harder" music does not allow me to express my opinion??

I just expected a more progressive compilation and track no. 1 by Freq stands out IMO...For example, for this style that I have in mind, Plusquam compilations usually do it for me !!

I have to say I havent heard the comp yet - the connection with Israel is kinda slow, but I do believe that everyone is allowed to his own taste.. So those that like it is super nice and those who doesn't - well they probably will find something else they like..

About the comparison of the remix of Antix to the original... I really think that its rather uncomparable, since Antix track is a groove 130 bpm deep and hypnotic trance, while my remix is 140 bpm proggy chubby dancefloor oriented track. It is like comparing jazz and rock - both are good           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman
