Yo everybody!

Listen, I have just returned from a Microsoft trip in Spain/La Manga. It was a gathering of people working in Dell and Microsoft from all over Europe. First of all, I would like to say that the best people that I met and talked with through the weekend, where from Switzerland Your a bunch of great people, all of you. Now to my shocking point. NO ONE, I mean NO ONE knew who Albert Hofmann was, can you believe that!? Why are not the people of Switzerland better informed and educated??

Well, I'm in shock, and would like to get a good explanation. I mean, he invented LSD for Buddha’s sake!!!

He invented what?

Was it really an invention or more a discovery?

u're right, the doctor didn't invent anything, he "just" discovered the lsd25 by accidently synthesizing fungy-parasite found in wheat.

for sure hoffman belongs to the list of most distinguished swiss persons and scientist todate, but his story is not likely to be taught or discussed in general high school classes. i didn't knew him either till i got infected by the psyvirus and consequently discovered acid myself, hehe... that was the point where i informed myself about hoffman, by reading his book and paying more attention to the rare media coverage on him.

hehe psytones, it's quite amusing to imagine you asking computer geeks on an ibm fare if they know hoffman... i think their world lies in 0's and 1's and not in the studies of psychedelics.... though i'm sure some of 'em take acid, or how do u explain all these crazy video games, computer animated cartoons and other freaked stuff??

nice topic by the way

not necessarily, Nygma - there are tons of folks fueling their right brain without any kind of botanical, or for that purposes chemical assistance. I believe it is not requisite to experience a trip in order to be able to artistically shape it - some people fantasize better than the other while being naturally inspired, and other have a tremendous ability to illustrate it through their talent, even though their day to day life remains unspectacular and substance free.

I have also noticed that surprisingly few people among the Swiss psy crowd knew about dr.Hoffmann (or in a lesser percentage than other psy crowds) – I thought it would be a matter of free PR for the Swiss community. btw - I like very much the compilation album released for his anniversary.

nice topic indeed, and I hope it will go on further.

Actually, I think he created more than discovered, because the molecule doesn't exist in nature. Psylocibine or LSA found in some tropical plants are real close, but the thing LSD25 was indeed invented!           V/A Floating Mirror - OUT NOW - with Celles, Midimal, Electrypnose, Melodix, Troll Scientists, Yab Yum, Gaspard, Ajja, Cradle of Beats! You're right Mercury-Fall, LSD25 is for sure an invention and not a discovery... At this time this molecule had never be found in nature... The name LSD come from german (lysergic säure diethylamid in english:diethylamid of lysergic acid) and the number 25 is only a laboratory classification designed by Hoffman himself to design the 25th molecule synthetized from the ergot (claviceps purpurea fungus) alcaloids...
For them they are interested by this subject, read at the book of Hoffman: LSD my terrific child...

i personally have never heard anyone relating lsd or all its discovery entailed to switzerland directly, and i dont think lsd is called a typical swiss invention inside nor outside the country either. it just doesnt belong to swissness as the edelweiss, the army knife or the STEWI but the easiest answer for sure is that there are lots of people who will never ever hear something about or have to do something with lsd and what it led to.

Well, I travel quite a lot and I have been to parties in many places. And all over the I'm being asked about Albert Hoffmann and the swiss invention LSD. So I think he and the fact that LSD was invented in Switzerland is quite popular in the psychedelic scene.

Besides that, on must not reduce his work to the invention of LSD. He was also the first one to isolate and synthetisize Psilocybin and he invented medicals that are still in use nowadays.

So many thanks to you Albert, for all the work you've done, the substances you synthesized, the books you've written (a must for every psychonaut) and the precious piece of spiritual input he gave our society.
