Why so many people still love goatrance, really love with all of their hearts. Both artists and listeners.
Why is almost nobody making this kind of music nowdays if so many do love it?

I only heard Filteria and thats it...

If you love it, why dont you create it again?

Maybe your base assumption is false.           Row row row your boats gently down the stream; merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.

Ethereal makes goa style. Ypsilon 5 does as well.

I think most people stopped this style because it was created during the mid to late 90s period. You ever thought maybe it got old, and people decided that it was time for a musical evolution?

People don't forget, I guess, because this is the root of the goa/psy music genre.

It's possible that today's psy will spawn something new tomorrow. It should be pretty obvious that this is going on as we speak. Take a look at what's being released these days:

Trauma Trance, Full-on, Dark Psy, and the new israeli crop which uses alot of influences from other music genres(I do not like israeli psy, btw). IMO, I think there is going to be an n-way split of psytrance, thus creating new sub genres all linking back to the root of the tree.

Bottomline, when shit gets old, people wanna recreate and refresh the excitement again.

Again though, people never seem to forget their roots.

Artists who want to reproduce what is already there choose to produce either Full On or Progressive.

It sells much better, gets them more gigs and they are most likely on the same page taste wise as most other people.
Ergo, they produce for the mainstream (because they themselves belong to the mainstream). --- Please note, when I say mainstream I mean our mainstream, and not MTV´s, nothing wrong with it in my eyes.
For instance Wrecked Machines or Elastic.

Now - For those artists who try to create something new and unique there is even less reason to go back to producing what has already been done; unless its a matter of crossing genres or creating thematic tracks. For instance Kino Oko.

What is left over are the artists who like the old sound better, and perhaps dont like the new sound at all and do not have the urge to create something new following more modern trends.
They produce music which resemples old school a lot more.
For instance Filteria.

Now, does this make sense to you ? Artists like everybody else belong to the same culture, and as such there will always be the most artists interested in the mainstream.

There are artists trying new things which often dont earn them much merit, however the successfull ones have the honor of creating the trends for the mainstream to follow.

A typical example of this is "dark psy", which has become quite mainstream by now; but a few years back the picture was a different one.

There are of course always those who are not happy with the way things are going, and never move on to producing different things. They recreate what has already been done, following old dated trends.
I think its great because that way the music still lives on somehow... BUT... I think the best thing is that there are artists moving on, pushing the envelope of creation (that constitutes not only life, but evolution).

If focus is to be anywhere, then let it be on the mainstream and the cutting edge productions, and not on what has been done.

In 10 years Im sure there will be people asking why noone produces Full On and Progressive like they did in the old days anymore ;-)
Other people will be whinning about what is mainstream while others engage in new genre wars... Just like now

Best Wishes

IMO the terms goatrance and psytrance (psychedelic trance) in most sentences have the same meaning, except that some people sometimes use the term goatrance when refering to the very first psytrance tunes (specially the melodic tunes).

I think that if most goatrance tunes where released today they'd be called psytrance and possibly full on (just like Filteria is full on).

I think most tracks which were called goatrance and were played at Goa, not at the very begining, but just before it had its "big boom", would be today called full on or dark full on.

Astral Projection many more were making psytrance tunes which probably would be called full on if released today around 1995/1996.
The Muses Rapt released their classic Spiritual Healing in 1997. This track is pretty much full on, but if you search for it on Psyshop you'll fing they call it Goa Trance...
http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/pho/pho1cd077.html

In another words, the main aspect that defines if something will be called full on (happy/melodic/morning, groovy/high-tech, dark/evil/night, tech-trance/technoish or whatever) today is the bpm, which is usually from 138 to 148.

And maybe the most inportant: many of the people that say they "love" Goa trance do it because:

1 - They just call the music the like "Goa Trance".

2 - It is considered "fashion" or "cult" or "cool" or "intelligent" to say you "love" Goa Trance, specially if you have no idea about what is/was Goa Trance.

Respect!

man this is the basic nature of evolution and nothing can escape it , not even a music genre called psytrance. new people come, new idea's come, new technology comes. change is the only constant thing, so welcome change at the same time knowing the roots. there are new pastures to be discovered. who knows what is waiting for us.

People wont have their musical tastes changed from people bashing genres.

If you want a change, try to promote what you like better - but - do it by bringing the good in new music to peoples attention, and not by pointing out the bad in old music.

Btw - I have no idea if you ever bash full on - So, dont take it personally if you dont. Then my comment is just for everybody
