i think, and this is my opinion, that labels are extremly narrow minded when releaseing compilations.most of them sound amazingly alike, and honestly i dont recall any chill comp. that tries to innovate.
basically they mostly sound like shpongle immitations with few tracks that offer something new, mainly in slightly jazzy direction.
is this a money issue?
my suggestions - more IDM directions, more dub (REAL dub) directions, more creativity!

Backroom Beats 2 took some marvelous creative turns, I thought.

Great uplifting dubness from OTT, Esion Jim's tracks were awesome, Tristan's was really unique, Gaudi's took a different direction too! All staying interestingly psychadelic in their own way

I think that there are chill comps out there doing the right thing, but many that are just average. Guess that is the same for any genre.

Interchill compilations are usually very good and not at all Shpongle like.
Though I prefer artist albums over compilations.

I think that you are a little bit confused.
Have you ever listened to L.S.D. records,or Interchill(Just to name a few).
And what`s "REAL" dub, what suppose to mean???
Shpongle imitations???
Only Shulman & Entheogenic in my opinion.
Tripswitch,Abakus,Adam Shaikh,Shakatura.
And many etc. are FULL of creativity so may be you should start to listen to some music before start critics.
Okie???

People have certain musical visions, and it's natural that people that come from the same background (trance community) have similar visions.

However, there still quite a lot of diversity.
Ultimea have a very specific and solid line of music- soft trancey ambient. Interchill are totally diverse. Dakini have dreamy psychedelic music with strong ethnic flavour, etc. etc.

However, I agree of course that diversity should be there, the question is how to squeeze it right without loosing the story.           ---------------------------------------------

There's a difference between imitations and influence.

You can say that Jorg on Mushroom- The Messenger is a Shpongle imitation (it was intended to be)- however if you listen well, you'll hear that it is also very different and very very creative.

First Shulman album is actually influenced not by Shpongle but by pre-Shpongle Mystical Experiences, and has a lot of different elements and influences than Shpongle, not to mention the second album to be released anyday now, which goes to many other directions and much much deeper (preper yourself for a real deep dive for this one). I hear there touches of IDM-ambient stuff.

Entheogenic is also quite different in my opinion (So far I have only the first album unfotunately), much more floating and with feel, and with less brain work.

And anyway, even Shpongle comes from somewhere else- go check the more ambientish tunes of Ozric Tentacles.

Well said, there is of course the same background, but i actually don't see or hear that much of similarity in say Shpongle and Entheogenic. Both come from the same root but grew into different directions.

Wow,I don`t know.
But if you really think about it the records company has the intention to sale records that`s normal.
The point is that we have quite a lot of important&interesting choices.
About Entheogenic...well,this people it`s not really original but they sounds good and many people like it (not me for example)so ...dumdubby du you may be must try to take care about what you say
,some people can feel offended.

hey now boys, no fighting...
as i thought few people agreed with me (if anyone).maybe the psy-scene as a whole isnt ready for a step forward, which is ok.

just to clarify things,i have ALL the albums mentioned above(backroom beats,etc.).as i said,no surprises beside some jazz oriented stuff.

I wouldn't call jazz or jazzy as something new or innovative, this has been done countless times and I find it rather boring.
If you like Jazz buy some of the old legends like Miles Davis, etc...
