One thing that seems to work for me is melancholic music, you're in the mood anyway but once the music comes on you stop thinking about yourself, which is the easiest way of getting out of the funk.

I think it was Tom Robbins who wrote that depression comes from self-pity, and self-pity is comes from taking yourself too seriously.

It's also way easier to give advice about this so if you're trying to find someone to get you out of it don't look for friend who gives advice but better to look for a friend who'll distract you.

Never had one, but i'm a "deep" dude so i've been on the edge quite a few times and usually pretty close to flip over.

My advice is to listen to some fast music, not speedcore obviously but fast music (that you enjoy) makes your mind and body attend to the different elements displayed and heard withing each tune, making your deep inner state go away for a bit, but be aware, this is a close path to self destruction, which i've been on a few times.

fight the constant negatives in mind ....... trust me everyone can overcome that .

unwind and dont care what others think its a matter of self esteem and clarity of thoughts ....... but its the fiercest battle ever and no medals and dont expect others to understand what youre going thru rather self contemplation and subjective thinking is required medication is not to be avoided but not to be enhanced .............. and yes as already said lots of exercise ... let the natural remedy flow in the body's pipe network
           To focus sometimes you need to spin hard on your soul's axis..... just don't ask how and what it means ;)

I think salt,citrus juice/orange juice/carrot juice is good for depression.
Also green tea,ginseng,goji berries.

One more thing.

Get enough sleep and shift work is bad for your health cause it messes up your Circadian Rhythms.Sleeping during the day,doing something at night.

Circadian rhythms have been found to be associated with changes in mental and physical performance.

The human body is meant to be active during daytime hours, while during nighttime hours it is meant to sleep which allows it to recover and replace energy. Working at night and sleeping during the day is opposite to the body’s “biological” clocks and what the body naturally wants to do. This may make sleeping difficult; it may also mean that the body cannot recover as quickly from physical and mental exertions/demands.
