well i got involved when meeting an old friend who introduced me to trance and totally re-formatted my brain with the music of Sven Väth and Legend B - lost in Love also Genecom was a great influence from the Planet Rythm label and this was in '92 i think.

There've been a lot of these topics, but I won't spoil the fun by going on about that.
I'll just answer straight to the point. Way back in 1997 a friend of mine came up with a cd 'I absolutely had to hear'... I popped it in, and looked at the sleeve. Distance to Goa 2 it said. Hmmm first track: Spectral - Moonstone. I pressed play on the cd-player and from the moment the song started I thought: WOW... this is it! The music I've been dreaming about
I bought my first albums soon after that, back in the day the musicshops here still sold psytrance. Distance To Goa 4 and Hallucinogen's Twisted album were the ones I've bought. Since then I've been buying psytrance eversince. Today I couldn't imagine a life without it really.

Shit man... I had all those deck wizzard comps back in the day... I was going out about 3 times a month in London back in 96... all those Return to the Source & Pagan nights, (and a bit later) Otherworld & Science Fiction. We used to play those comps so much before and after nights out! I'm sure one of them has that wonderful Juno Reactor tune... Rotor blade... or something!

Ahhhhhh... those were care free days!

I was at Burning Man in '97 and danced to a music till dawn, not knowing it was psytrance. I was into punk/emo/deathmetal/stonerrock at the time.
In 2000 my younger brother took me to a trance room at a club and gave me a little pill and I discovered what trance was.

Someone at work mentioned the new thing was Goa trance so I did some research on this music and stumbled on isratrance and read the history of Goa. started listening to the stream at microdots.org and found that this was the music and culture for me. Infected Mushroom was my first psy party.

friggn hippie.

I'd known about Goa for years, and liked it ok, but always thought it was a bit cheesy, with all the melodies and no bass. Then X-Dream came out with Radio, psy started getting darker and chuggier, less melodic and (imo) more psychedelic. Then came Burning Man - dancing all night long to psytrance - and I haven't been able to dance to anything else since then.

Last year I was bored with the music I knew, and looked for a new style to embrace. In my search I found an online psytrance Israeli forum ("tapuz" for you Israeli guys out there). I was completely blown away by the people there. More amazingly, many of them were like 17-18 years old, an age group which typically I can't stand. Anyway, I realised that there must be something good there and started the addiction. I must note that after the first party I've gone to (last week), my appriciation of this music completely changed, and now I am addicted in impossible levels.

It was fall 1997 was 16 and had just started "experimenting" with psychedelics within the past few months. At that time I really liked the little electronic music I knew- Chemical Brothers- Dig Your Own Hole and the Orb- Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. I was also liked Dark Side of the Moon by PF a lot. Interestingly enough I had never been a big music listener at all before I tried MJ in fact. So that, some Jimi Hendrix and a few others were the only music I knew.
I knew I liked this electronic music thing but whenever I went to one of the big corporate music stores in the USA and tried to get electronic music most of what I found sucked.

One day I was perusing a favorite FTP site for software to download and came a cross a file "LSD.mp3". Having just gotten into this LSD stuff I decided to download it and see what it was.
When I opened the file I hear the classic
Quote:

"I Believe that with uhhh the advanet of acid we've discovered a new way to think and it had to do with.. piecing together no thoughts of your mind. Why is that people think it's so evil, what is it about it that, uhh that scares people deeply? It's because theyere afraid that there's more to reality than they have confronted, that there are doors that theyre afraid to go in and they dont want us to do in there either because if we go in we might learn somethin that they dont know, and that makes us a little out of they're control"

I nodded in agreement. 'Preach on Brotha!' I thought.
Then the most psychedelic sounds I had ever heard came rushing out of the speakers and plunged me into the swirling fluorescent worlds of Hallucinogen-Twisted. The builds! the swirls! the textures of the sounds! THE MOST INCREDIBLE THING I HAD EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I was taken away by this song like no music had ever taken me away before. I listened to this song on repeat for months.
But the whole time I had no idea who made it or what kind of music it was! I couldnt find the site and the only info I had was that the tracks name was LSD.
Then finally one day I found an FTP site that had a whole ablum containing a song called LSD. I got it and found that it was the right alblum, did some searching and found that the kind of music was Goa trance. I found more of it through internet and record stores that sold it (Nod to the memorise of Throb and HOUSE of Trance in NYC) and got into The Infinity Project, Infected Mushroom, Cosmosis, Prana and others.
It was a full year until I actually went to my first party though. In that year I could not find a single person that I knew who even knew what this music was. Nobody I played it for liked it except for 1 of my friends. It was really disheartening how closed most people were. I was only 17 and things were kinda tense between me and my parents so it was hard to get out all night. I missed the legendary party at the Liberty Science Center owing to this situation but finally managed to catch Hallucinogen in October 1998 at one of Tsunami's parties at a no longer existant place called Vinyl. So me and the 1 other person I could find who would listen to Goa music go down there and have an absolutly amazing time. I knew from the moment I walked in there and saw all the blacklight deco and blacklight dressed people that this was were I wanted to be and this is the only place I would ever feel truly at home. In a way it made me angry because I was finding about this so late in my life. I felt a little left out and trapped by my life circumstances that seemed to place me at such an impossible distance from becoming close to these people I felt such a strong identification with.

So I dealt with it by just going to parties when I could, listening to Goa 24/7 and making my room into a fluorescent temple. It was not until years later that I actually started to talk to people at parties or get to know them.

I've not been in the game too long. It was 2002 when somebody DCC'd me the old Astral Projection at Brotherhood Beach party set. Since then I became inlove with goa and psy.

I'm now only 19 and still love the genre and have years and years left to go.

What I need now though, is to escape from Canada as there is no partys/events here what so ever.

Watch out for those blacklights, too much exposure has been known to be carcinogenic, from what I understand.

really nice story otherwise.           ..it's just another party..

In 1997 my cousin took me to a private party and told me that the dj is going to play a different kind of music.Till then i was listening to techno and some electronic but this was really different.
Thats when i first heard about Chakra, Xdream and Astral Projection.
Damn, since them I've attended most of the parties and festivals in Macedonia.
Although the music has cnahged throughout the years, I still love Astral's music.
