Hello amigos.

I know this is not simple to explain in words, but I have cdj and mixer and I like to mix musics like full on, progressive and night stuffs... but I really don't know how can I mix chillout or ambient music.

I will play in a private partie in the chillout area and I would like to know if you can give me some tips about how to mix that!

All help will be welcome!

Thanks and regards.

mainly, youjust have to like the music you play,if you are not shure of that dont even try....
give to the set a balance that is your reflex as person /dj

but to be honest this really puts me sad....
there are a lot of good djs without work, trying to survive, buying music...working day and night...but they have no gigs,no recognition....they play for free, they are fooled by the organizations etc etc...
and then it happens......lots of people full of gigs...but they dont know what to play!!!?????or how to mix this!!!!!!??????

an advise......go to your room and practice.....
there are no rules.....find your own if you are going to do things based on the others you will be like a jukebox......where lies a jukebox no dj is needed

have fun............perhaps you dont like ambient otherwise you would know how to mix that......

but follow justins topic

Hi Corta... I agree with u maan.. in all that u said...

but u have to know... I love Chillout/Ambient music... but I never played this before... for sure I had tried to mix it in my room... but I didin't had many success... that's why I'm recovery my friends from isratrance... and I know how is difficult be a DJ that can win money with that... have recognition... be respected... if u don't have influential friends... man... u will have to work hard to arrive in the professional middle... and it's what I'm doing...

Thanks justin chaos... I will study it!

Regards to all!!

don't worry about beatmatching every mix like you would spinning trance...i mean, you can do it if it works, but its not important in chillout. just make smooth, floaty transitions...one cool thing about chillout is that the tracks usually stand out on their own, so as long as your mixes don't sound awkward or forced, then you're doing good!

I mix harmonically, as a lot of what I play is pretty floaty and ethereal stuff anyways. Just make sure not to have to really dissimilar tones clashing when you mix.

Try to tell a story with your music, even if it doesn't go the way you plan it will still be a journey           Wait.....What?

umm... for a start.... start with easy fade in fade out with some nice tracks which are quite similar with regards to flow, mood etc. Once u have achieved this.. u cld try with the more complex ones.
Also, listen to the chillout mixes posted here.. and have a good listen. The rest u will figure out.
Hope this helped

This mix brings together Indian classical, ethno-ambient and chillout sounds to recreate the feeling of reaching a state of trance. The emotions behind the music were brought about by a documentary on the Kumbh Mela.

try Djane Pooh's Kumatesh set, its like a guide how to mix our chilly side

ps, forgot to mention, the main concept on chillmixing is the track selection , Ott can be a very good start, he's very mixable           PSYKS

Yeah no beatmatching here, smooth transitions will do, but make sure what is play is part of the story you want people to go into, chill out music is very atmospheric and the tracks you choose decides how good the mix is.

All the best

+1 mixing ambient is more like mixing old skool,
the flow is very important, create a concept...           http://www.last.fm/user/LastFmKoen
