in the west coast of the USA like mubali mentioned before it could go from $10 to $40 presale and $35 to $50 at the door and speaking up from GDL Mexico where a 1 day festival with a line up of 6 live acts could go from $15 to about $40 depending the circumstances and the promoter.
Rich so nice you brought up the gas prices to this topic as a matter of fact in SOCAL most of the outdoors are outside of town which means driving a long way to get in the place, making the gas factor a little problem we are learning to deal with.......           www.instagram.com/ckloro

In bangalore, India - most of the parties cost around 300-400 bucks. Thats like 7-9 USD. Still from India point of view - its lil expensive but then with oil prices going up and taking into consideration everything - its OK. Even the organiser should get something after taking all the risks!           Discover.Vote.Share() - http://www.beamto.us

the first party i went to in my country it was for $6, but it was an indoor one. now we have to pay something like $15 for an outdoor beach party. and we're talking about local Djs, no live acts !!!

Here in Germany, it's anywhere from €15-40 at the door for a weekend-long (ie, 3-5 days) open-air festival. One-night outdoor parties are often cheaper (€15-20). The big exception was Full-Moon, which was €65, but that was 7 days long and had somewhere around 100 international acts.

In the US the price of gasolene is reaching $3 a gallon in some areas. I think some adjustment to the door price of ourdoor partys should accomodate this.

IMO, it's not organizers' jobs to subsidize travel to their events. They already have enough to worry about in order to not lose their ass financially (most do anyways) without additionally lowering the entry price a few dollars to account for gas of the attendees' cars. The organizers also have to pay gas for the generator, so why should they get hit twice for the increase in gas price?

In Germany, gas is the equivalent of around $5/gallon (€1-1.25/liter), but people just carpool and share the costs (or take the train). You will rarely see somebody driving to a party without a fully packed car. I think gas prices are something that an organizer should take into account when choosing the location - not deciding what they need to charge to cover the cost of the party.

But I don't own a car so it's easy for me to say this.           -----------------

actually what I meant in referring to gas prices was the gas for the generators!
but yeah, driving to the location is definately a factor.

Ah, I completely misread that. So I guess we're on the same page.

A friend of mine found a good solution to the whole gas/generator cost issue - he located a cool bridge location with a functioning electrical plug. Sort of simplifies matters....

in austrlalia i guess the average price is like $35AUD, so like $25USD or something like that. But that is for a mad setup and most likely an international or bunch of awesome local acts. Some parties are free(they ask for a donation tho) and some festivals are like $150+ on the gate, but half that if you buy early enough. The last open air event i went to(near Byron) was Triptych which was like $32AUD or something along those lines for pre-sale tix.

I have seen some festivals on the east coast cost as much as $125.00 at the door...

WTF?

Where something special there?

good question. I think in the North East it has to do with ridiculously high land prices, and general expense of living and traveling around New York City.
          ..it's just another party..
