i was thinking that we need 5 years to make psy with a professional quality, in sound quality and story also.
Now i'm with 3 years making and think that this time can be nice too. heheh
I know that it depend of the person, the time to spend and somethings like that but i think thats really hard to someone make a killah track (i mean inteligent music) with 1 year making..
What u think?
and artists, how much time u are making music now, and how much time u spend to start to make quality sounds?

well, im 1 year into music making and everyday discovering that the road ahead to sound like i want is far far away from me... im advancing for sure, but there is no way i can express my ideas the way i want to at this point.... also some of my best sounds i achieved by mistake and cannot repeat the process in an intelligent manner on other sounds. i have been putting alot of effort into music, mostly in the last 6 months more the first... the keys are:
patience and perseverence... 2 things i need to work on myself.
also i suppose it depends on your intelligence and skills and the better you are with things, the faster youll go....
keep in mind that people like the proffs. we love and listen to have been making music for over 10 year (at least)... so its not overnight that they sounded this good...           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

well, i've been making computer based music since '95 and i feel the same way as surrender
there's always something you don't know or understand or can't do. when you know nothing, you think there is nothing to understand. when you know a bit, you realize that there might be something more to it.
and then it hits you POW! the learning path is a never ending walk. so you shouldn't think that much about being pro or what kind of sound you would like to make. that way you can get frustrated and loose your spirit (i've been there). enjoy the creation process, the moment of satisfaction when you've achieved something you couldn't do before, the positive and encouraging feedback you get from friends and party people and the mysteries of the sonic world

Been playing and making music for almost 28 years and electronic music since 1985.

I have leaned over the years that it's not so much about being "professional" as it is to discover your own style, learn different techniques and learn to express what's inside you. It's a learning process that actually never end. The best example is something I am sure most of us have tried. We have something in our mind that we like to draw on paper but somehow it just don't look the same when we draw it.
It's the same with music. Only time and a lot of pratice and hard work will teach you how to express what you got inside.

I believe those who truely burn passionated for their music and are willing to make personal sacrifices and work hard WILL eventally suceed.

I started making music using computers 10 years ago, and I'm always learning new stuff.
I hope I never think to myself "now I can't learn anything more, I know what there is to know."
The day that happens, I'll stop music music, I always want to learn and expand my musical boundries.

I know some people who has spent one year on making music and has achived great results, while others have been doing it for 5 years but they're still not 'there'.
So I don't think it's just a matter of time, but also dedication and well ... some people are better at one thing than others. We can't all be astronauts           ________________________

Wow, Kristian That's a truely inspiring comment and a very accurate explanation of the learning process of music creation. Mad props to that statement.

I am a newbie to an extent. I started playing classical music in 92 and started making electronic music in 2003... It's always an ongoing learning process and I always look forward to learning new things from anyone I possibly can. You have to be eager to learn some tricks and adopt your own interpretation upon it. It doesn't mean everything you learn will completely apply in that circumstance, but to have a plethora of knowledge at your disposal is a very valuable asset.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

yes it is, but learn with who knows is very good too, in my own experience i need to say that i was learning all alone but i really was with a wall in front of me, and my progress was very slow, but sometime ago stereographic bro comes here for 1 week, and i learn sooooo much with him, and my progress now is very fast, and i think how is good to learn with lot of ppl that really know. And see someone making is very diferent of read 1000 pages in any forum or something.
Yeah, professional is not the best word but its the one that i find to describe
and sure its a never end process!! i was only thinking about how much time u get good sound quality and feedback from the ppl and world (like some releases too)

Im a newbiew, but ive traveled everywhere from Brazil to Goa, passing through Europe of course, n wat is see is...u must understand wat is wat! So then, u must find your own style. Since uve found it, u must get the trax n start to play. But the thing is...u must find somewhere to play. Because your psycological side must be estimulated...u wont play 2 hrs a day locked in your room for more than first month uve bought your pair of cdj´s....so, its very important to be playing somewhere to keep the feelimg awake. Ive seen awful Dj´s playin at Hill-Top(Goa), Psyconnection(Spain), Boom Festival n many here in Brazil...so, i think i´d be shamed to play in GOA but not at someones house at the beach or a farm...so u get to start somewhere, n than show your face! Dont play the fool yourself!!!
