thats some crazy rig S-mind! jeez....! I hope you have moved to the joys of the laptop & controller & synth since then...

One thing I have noticed, and this is directly proportional to the number of videos I watch of trance artist on YouTube, but it does indeed seem like the most respected names in the industry are guilty of press and forget or dance on tables etc.

So we can go on a witch hunt and keep accusing pretty much everyone of not being live, and demand that their be a new class created called 'Real Live' for real lives or something like that (I'm not serious here) or just forget about the money and status, and try and set by example, and whats fun for us, as well as trying to stand out from the crowd. The only thing that can really change is that the lives get better!           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

.. yea I... in a way unfortunately... changed to laptop, controller and synth setup...
bores me a little in a way... don't have the feel as I had back then :-( but at least I can bring friends with me in the car since the backseats can stay..

how about "live show" instead of "live act" ?           Most of my music for you to download at:

If it has the word 'live' in it there will always be confusion. I stand by "producer set" for a laptop set or "producer DJ set" for an artist playing a DJ set of their own material.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

i'll accept your "producer dj set" for cd's
for laptop its live more then 80% of what i saw on trance scene , if i just press play and wait it will have only silence ..
i never see anyone complain on any big electronic production triggering loops to be not "live" enough.
anywayz not for this fee's mate. how many will pay for 4 peaple and all the equipment.. ? specialy for 200 300 peaple party ??
and dont "jean michelle jarre" me here.. with this budjet its not even close to what we talk.
can i actualy afford myself to hire 3-4 musicians for live show for fee of 600eu show ?? and think of flights and all..all the stuff we need to get there , the value of the equipment and laptops (nobody pay u back if your laptop is dead after the show)
i reckon for this scene ableton live is what it can afford , or to pay also flight for artists girlfriend to make vocals hehe

so in the end of the day i think cosm's video is great and show to the world how live it can get when its 1 person... more ideas pleaaaasee ? i folow cosm looping system and adding live midi guitar with some melodies.. its on the build now for few gigs next year and more idea's now will make it even better
ahhhh virus Ti wish i could afford that now $%#$%           www.sattelbattle.com

thats what i can call honestly

Ott is true musician!

http://ottsonic.com/index.php?page=gigs-and-bookings

"For DJ sets I play from a laptop.

I require a little space to set up - approx 2ft x 2ft - and a single ac power outlet.

I output 2 x stereo signals on RCA phono plugs. I would usually plug straight into the existing DJ mixer.

DJ sets can be anything up to 4 hours.

Setup time is approx 15 minutes."

This is take from this thread

http://forum.isratrance.com/on-the-live-not-live-debate-giving-away-my-live-set/

_________

Heyas

Still quite a lot of debate around the place as to what to expect from an act billed as live and all that... so I've gone and posted one of my live sets online for anyone to download, play, and get a feel for how some laptop artists play... so that they can get a gist of what actually happens behind the screen.

I'm sure there are many other artists who do things differently, but this is one particular way, or my particular way, of performing live using a laptop.

There is no catch, anyone can do anything they like with this tune for free.

I have posted this in the main forum because I want to direct this at punters rather than other performers, its more for people who don't know a lot about what goes on when someone plays live.

I did for a number of reasons, but the main one is so that people who aren’t utter geeks can get an instant feel of how amazing playing live can be, as well as informing people how to go about creating their own live setup.

This set is a modified version of the same thing I would use in a live performance. I have replaced all my outside VSTs and effects with Ableton native effects, so everybody can download this and play. You don't even need to own a copy of Ableton to run this, just get the demo from www.ableton.com/demo and you can play like everyone else.

I have mapped all the “fun” parameters of the effects I use to keys on the keyboard, so there is no need to have any kind of controller either, just open the file and start pushing buttons.

The pack contains a readme file with a rundown of how everything is laid out, and what buttons correspond to what parameters.

I’ve made an online video tutorial about this set and how to use it, and I invite you to click the first link below, which has a video introduction from myself explaining the details of this project in a more in depth way. It is made for people who are quite new to using Ableton however, so some of you may not need the run down.

The you tube links are ok... but I have made high quality versions of the video available for free download in the media section of my website. I also came across some interesting audio issues with youtube resulting in my voice level to be quite low in the streaming version, the down loadable versions have nice clear audio.

Link to the first part of the video :

Here is a direct link to an mp3 of the tune how I have arranged it
: http://www.cosm.co.nz/music/Module_-_All_This_Time_(Tom_Cosm_Remix).mp3

and here is a link to the media section of my website where you can download the .als file and the videos. I am making people sign up because of bandwidth issues.

There are bound to be a few hiccups somewhere, please let me know if you find any because I plan on doing this again soon.

I hope you enjoy it and get something from it, and please do feel free to post this in any other forums or blogs where it might be of some interest.

Cheers!

That's all I'm arguing for Like I've said a million times, there is a whole spectrum of stuff you can do to make your set 'live music' rather than just playback. 4 people with instruments is only one way; one person on their own can do it in Ableton Live as Tom Cosm demonstrates... and it takes no more skills to do it than it takes to write the track in the first place. Triggering loops is live enough for me No way do I believe that 80% of live acts do more than press play though, especially if you discount all those who just DJ their own tracks from Ableton and call it 'live'. Certainly not of the live acts I've seen play in the last 7 years or so.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

since eskimo starts to look more and more like a psy version of michael jackson he should consider some dancing training. He's fun to watch just as he is but just not funny enough           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception"
