Well strictly speaking from the east coast point of view (NYC -specifically) - the big parties here are usually 2 or 3 international act parties and local DJ's. We usually get an average of about 500 people I would think - sorry not completely sure about that figure. I have heard though that the west coast (San Francisco - specifically) is a bit more happening. So If you are in town just pm me or any one of us - we love to give the skinny on the situation.

I don't think you will find parties in the U.S. which have more than 500 people..in L.A. the parties probably average 200-300 people sometimes more but usually not... We've had all kinds of artists and djs play here but the scene still remains "underground" for the most part. When you speak to most people (outside of parties of course) they are not familiar with psytrance. In Mexico though the scene is much bigger and you will find parties with thousands of people... what exactly are you trying to find out??           Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...

I think the scene here is good, though small. There are pockets all over the country, usually around big cities and universities. But very underground, and still pure and often spiritual. A lot of people like the music, but are not familiar with it. So slowly, they learn.

New York has a huge scene, and San Francisco, too. But I'll let people who live there tell about them.

i have definitely noticed that the most promising signs of psy-culture outside of the major cites (i.e. san fran, nyc, la, dallas, seattle, boston, miami) has been in college towns. austin_tx, asheville_nc, athens_ga, bloomington_in, and a handful of other small cities with large universities seem to be gaining momentum that is pretty impressive for their size/populations.

the parties in san francisco are almost as good as the ones in portugal. we get to go to burning man every year, and have great artists. portugal is the only place I have been with a more solid vibe. we have quasar and ghreg on earth, random and Penta, Ocelot, Fractal Cowboys, and Chromotone regurarly writing amazing music, and Goa Gil playing here twice a year. he says this is his favorite spot to play. And there are great local djs. Dj Amanda is super cool, playing the phat dark stuff, and KJ has been playing super cool music for years. On the progressive side, the guys from biodegradable where playing here for years too. Pretty happening. we had Grapes and metaloids this year, and are working on fungus funk and para halu . so we are into the really psychedelic sounds.

Yes, the last Halloween party showed that we still have it happening here in San Fran. I've never seen so many freaks in any country I've been to. How many people were there? 600-700 on the dance floor, 1100 overall?

yeah - also Boulder/Denver, Colorado - a huge Burning Man scene here - you've not seen a crazy party until you've been to Denver. trrrust me. these people - there's something seriously wrong with them.

the psy scene is getting healthier, too. with the Buddhist central command here at Naropa Institute, it's about damn time!

in terms of NYC the biggest parties these days are
500-700 people. and around 350 is still big.

There are more people that you would expect in NYC that are into trance... just not all of them go all the time.... I think that if you somehow got everyone in NYC who was into trance into one giant party, you could have upto 2500 people. honestly.
(for many of them it would be their first party in a while sure..) and then if you could find a way to get tourists from Europe who happen to be travelling through NY you could add to it.

so I would not say the NYC 'scene' is 2500 people, but there are enough trance people here to do that at a party once. (and if you could get that many people in one party, and had good Dj's, it would probably end up being so good that the parties after would be larger than what we are used to these days ;-)

Jehan how did u derive at 2500 people? the largest synthetic sadhus parties had maybe 1100 and that is being wild.... how long have you been in NYC? check your numbers again.... i think there are at most 1500 trancers who could technically attend a super party... the rest are from out of town (metro area and beyond) have u been to the parties in Amazura? or in Cinema World, or at the WF where Hallucinogen and Infected managed to bring a mere 1000 people...

I'm not saying that there have ever been 2500 people at a party... look at it this way, even at a party with 1000 trancers, dont you think that most of them might know a trancer who lives around NYC, that is not at the party...
If so, that means there could potentially be 2000 of them around. Yes I've been to those Synth S....Amazura parties where there wasn't much more than 1000 people.
as for your question... I've been in NYC for 2 years,
and before that lived within 1 and half hours of NYC for
the last 6 years. anyway... maybe my number of 2500 is a bit high, but I still maintain that there are 2000 trancers around.... not saying that there has ever been a party that size, but they are around.

...I have found that Trance is popular in New England...When I was in College (Dean College, in Franklin Mass.), I used to go every thursday to a nightclub called "club confetti" in Providence, Rhode Island with about 300 other students from my school. The main room was hip-hop...but their was a second room with a DJ who spun hard Dutch-style Trance that everyone loved. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the Dorms blasted all types of trance music on their stereos 24/7. Lots of people listen to psytrance. But, I have found that a lot of people are ignorant of the labels "psy-trance" ,"Goa Trance", "progressive trance", "euro-trance" etc... People just call it "trance music".

wow, i did nopt realise that it was as small as that in America!!

In UK We have more parties than i can handle, usually 2 big ones a week in London 2,000-3,000, and many smaller ones around 500 in many cities and in the countryside.

Do you have much of a free party scene???
