Hello everybody.
Judging from the thread about Progressive in London, I'm not the only one who is bemourning the fact that the city has been taking over by Full-on-loving E bunnies.
Rather than cry, wouldn't it be better to join forces and start throwing our own parties? Any of the whiners that think CPC Project is "evil" don't have to come. The PsyDMT crew are to be commended for their own little events at which they frequently play quality progressive.
My vision is a dark psy night in London, perhaps more geared towards the EBM/industrial mind set than the fluorodelic drug hippies, with quality dark/intelligent/progressive/minimal music from the wider psy and techno genres, regular frequency and featured DJ's who share our vision.
Examples of tunes I would like to hear there are artists like Mantik, Morja, Trioptimum, PPS Project, Midi Miliz, Spirallianz, The Delta, X-Dream, Cybered, CPC Project, Tetraktys, etc.. no full-on, no cheese, no fairies, no neon fur, just quality music for like minded people..
So, who's in?

and one of the reasons the UK scene is driven by full -on loving E bunnies is because our dance culture (whatever genre) was founded on a love of ecstacy, not lsd. |

LSD WAS THE DRUG OF CHOICE FOR THE GOA TRANCE SCENE WHEN IT STARTED IN THE U.K,NOT E.
LSD SHOULD STILL BE THE DRUG OF CHOICE AT TRUELLY PSYCEDELIC EVENTS.
FREE THE MIND AND THE REST WILL COME.
ps.if you suffer from mental illness, probably best you keep off drugs |

E-Bunnies or not, London psy parties have some of the best and friendliest atmospheres that I have seen.

Mate - who gives a flying fuck what the original drug of choice was... people take what they want to as long as they enjoy themselves (or push themselves to the brink of terror if that is their cup of tea).
I agree completely with Madpup friendly atmosphere = great!
P.s. i think that quoting yourself may be a sign that it's "probably best you keep off drugs"...
It's about the music and the atmosphere, the drugs are enhancers... NOT the other way around...

Does that mean all the other stuff in the UK parties is light psy? Get rid of the categories people, and get back to Psychedelic music. Dark Psy, what a crap term. They used to call it night time once upon a time in the UK, and tbh, people have not been exposed to it here, or when they have, it's been a party when there has only been night time artists, which imho, is just as bad as having say only full on morning tunes in a party. How about a party in the UK that actually takes you on a journey? One that takes in both the night and morning sounds, because you can't have night without the morning and vice versa, unless you happen to live on another planet. Turn On, Tune In, Trance Out!!!

@Red Five: It's not about divisions -- just a specialty event meant for the connoisseurs who like it dark and that make up less than 10% of the scene! Trust me, "mainstream" trance ppl. usually run screaming "But it's not Psychedelic!" (or similar) Think about this: Metallica is "metal" and Death Metal is "metal" -- yet different vibe, different music, different people who are into it no? Let's bring the music with the fuckin' EDGE!
@full_lotus: why does it have to be a "journey"? Why can't we just listen to a bunch of dark intense music all night enjoy ourselves and go home? After all Biohazard or System of a Down don't play a happy folk tune at the end of the show either, eh?
@everybody: let's keep this thread clean, this is discussion about music, not dr*gs |

Beacuse it's been done in this country, and the promoters in question lost alot of money and did not get alot of people through the door. Don't get me wrong Night time psy is one of my favourites, and I've been playing loads of it when I do play out. Your best bet is to put on a night at a small venue. There was one in Brighton a few weeks back that I played at......And there are people who love this style, but they are very much scattered about.
Turn On, Tune In, Trance Out!!!

That's the idea -- small space, small but tight crowd. Something like the Fridge Bar would be ideal -- small, dark, loud. I'll hit you by PM once I get to the point of actually putting something together, and then we'll just see if the whole thing sticks. |
