Hippie villages?

Ever since the first time I saw "last hippie standing" I've been fascinated of the alternative hippie villages. As most of us know, Goa isn't what it used to be anymore. So are there any other hippie villages around these days? I can name two:
-Nimbin in Australia ( http://www.nimbinaustralia.com/ )
-Christiana in Denmark ( http://www.christiania.org/ )

I never heard about Nimbin until this day when my girlfriend who's backpacking in Australia right now told me about it. Christiania are facing heavy problems with the governments at the moment. They used to sell "soft drugs", cannabis and shrooms, openly but the situation has tightened up a lot. Not only about the drugs, it's about Chrisitanias whole existence.

Anyway, what I'd like to achieve with this post is getting more examples of hippie villages that exists in the world.

Peace!

Not a big fan of the whole idea, but they do seem interesting. I used to dream about living somewhere far away with like minded people who share everything in good or evil...those kinds of utopialist thoughts. But that is for man people far from achievable.

That Christiania village sounds like it's a religion camp

There a widespread misunderstanding among people here that this is a new conflict between Christiania and The Authorities. It's not! It's a conflict that's been going on since Christiania was "created".
And I have to say that there's very little "hippie" over Christiania these days. There's many ordinary families living there too. And there's not many hippes left. They kind of died out in the early 70's and got jobs and are now quite conservative and borgouis (settled). Some even work for the Government
But there are also many sad excistances there like the drunk Eskimoes from Greenland we forgot to take care of when we decided to "occupy" Greenland etc.

The whole conflict is about the huge drug market there. Not only soft drugs but also Heroin and other hard drugs. And the fact that Christania attract a lot of drugrelated crime including the ocassional drugrelated killings.
Before it was Hell Angels who controlled the drug traffic there. Today it's immigrant gangs versus Hell Angels. Even the people living at Christania want them long gone.

On the other hand there's also the legal issues of Christiania. Christiania used to be a Navy area. When it was abandoned it was occupied by the Hippies and that's how Christania came to life. The only problem is that the state own the property and has never legally approved Christiania.

I think Christiania will survive but those living there have to realise that they too have to pay tax and provide to the society too. They have for way too many years lived there without paying for anything such as rent, electricity etc. And they also have to realise that some of the illegal houses they have build there are way too dangerious simply because they are so poorly build.

Christiania will survive but probably under a bit more controlled terms.

Actually he is right. But the name was "thylejeren".

It's long gone now.

Sorry in Danish only.

nimbin isn't a little hippy town... this region (northern nsw, australia) is alternative and has a high percentage of hippies, trippies, new agey's .. yogis.. yuppy's who practive yoga and a few very very enlightened people ... but we are the minority still

nimbin would make many of u sick ... the area is so beautiful and from what my father said the aquarious festival in the 70's was "MINDBLOWINGLY AMAZING" ... but now its just a smacky cracky seedy drug fuct slum of abuse

however australia still has many communes (hippy villages) some work some don't ... its still a whole lot more concious then the 'burbs'

i personally see it like this ...

create ur own hippy village reality wherever u go ... smile and see the light .. appreciate the trees and the flowers and with every breath, in every moment... breath in life

LIVE

and be, especially be

I really like this idea of hippie villages.
A friend from Denmark and member of our forum when come here in my counntry
explain me about Cristiania and personally I would like to stay in a place like this.
And I dont have any problem if this happen as HandA says
under more controlled terms beacause this is more realistic for our days.

I just want to repeat that there's very little "Hippie Village" over Christiania these days.
