I´m a big high pass addicted also. Once I see a humble at analyzer, I cut it off. I don´t have a "right cutoff point", but for this task is something between 0-150 Hz.

But I´ve always wonder how the high pass filter affect the exact cutoff region. And I know it will cause some resonance. So, if u do a lot of high pass, it can tend to create lots of resonance at low.

I talked to the master engineer who worked for my last signed track, and he said to me some critical points about my track. And a low resonance was one of them.

So, imho, high pass with lot of care!

The best thing for me is to put the highpass on the desired channel and have it set at max and then wind it down slowly till your sound has the desired 'weight'.. obviously there are no rules, but certain plugins like the nexus tend to have a very heavy low end and sometimes need very heavy high passing (if thats even a phrase) and others dont need any at all.. i still tend to put it on most places if the eq cant to the job.. but try the above method, works wonders for me... obviousy an analyser is great hep, but trust your ear.. check out some other tracks on the analyser two, notice at breaks etc there is alot of activity in the mid-low range suggesting that artists dont highpass everything

1 pole or even 1/2 pole filter, at times even less then -3db is often the answer to "Overhighpassing"
Why make it a brickwall when you can do it much better with a bit more sublety?

hi, i got a little question...

my kick/bassline @145bpm is: kbbb
i sidechaincompressed the bass with the kick as trigger... good sound.

my lead goes down to 200-150 Hz, and there are no breaks in it, its constand.

i really tried much, to fit the bass with the lead together, but somehow i dont get it.
i cant hi pass more of the lead, in this case it would loose its fatness and would totally suck.

i heard about spliting up the melody in two parts, and sidechaincompress the deep notes @ every bassnote... well this will not work, also the high notes need some lower frequencies, and compress it at every bassnote means, compression all the time^^

any idea? i also could upload the melody + kick + bass... maybe someone could check it for me.

greetings

Sonnox Oxford EQ is my fav at the moment.

BTW: Which slope do you prefere for lowcuts?
I mostly don't use more than 24db/Oct for cutting, mostly i use 18db/Oct.

Upavas, here you can download the 3 seperate tracks (lead, bass & kick) as zip (0,4mb).

http://files.filefront.com/lead+bass+kick+145bpmzip/;11199271;/fileinfo.html
they are all 145 bpm.

i have no EQ on them, so you can eq it with your own style.

i wish you the best, hopefully you get some results... i really cant beat this crap ^^

maybe you could make some screenshots from you compression/hipass/eq that i can reproduce your work

thx & greetings

Hope this is what you're looking for. I did take a small notch out of the lead around the 300hz range. Also I applied another notch around the 2khz range with a q setting of about 30-40 . It often seems to make the bass more apparent. Another idea might be to use a multiband compressor and compress the 100hz range of the bass a bit but that might not be what you're looking for and does not always help...

Let me know please.
PS. What did you make the bassline with?

Why don't you guys sidechain your leads and other effects that you wish to have some low end with a common audio track that contains kick and bass so that any extra fatness that you don't wish to lose on your fx and leads can create a little dip in the kick+bass track.
I have not tried it myself yet but if I ever run into such situation then I will give that a go

its psytrance...justslap everything to gether with no compression or EQ..it will sound great

asuming you know how to actually make sounds that do not conflict, and not having to resort to FX "fixes"
