hey there, finaly i mixed my first 2 cubase SX tracks together, and i really like the result.

as you can hear, vibe tribe really affected my music, but i think im approaching to my own style.

if any "proffesional" could give me some advices, i would be very thankful.
im trying to use very few vst´s, for learning each knob of the plug in.

if anybody could take the time, just to tell me my biggest mistakes.

greetings orgy

ive tried a little... i pushed the Hi frequencys of the hihats, and a little volume to the closed hihat.

i tried to push melodies with hi frequency, but this didnt sound nice.

hi again, i listened to some tracks, and now i know what you mean... it seems that in the whole track the mid frequencys are to high, or the Hi frequencys are to low...

please ignore the last post, i gave the kick+clap a little Hi boost in this example, includet with the changed Hihats.

its better, but somehow not finished mastering...

here it is (only 1,7mb):

hi bro, the track have to be principally the highs in the same level than kick and bass.
the high levels are never too low, if they are low... its a bad mastering, have to stay high. the kick dont push the highs because its gona sounds like plim plim plim hehe .
I listen your clip and its better now

Just had a quick listen through - some very nice ideas/melodys and sounds in there. Keep up the good work man.

Whats really lacking for me here is the percussion - there doesnt seem to be too much going on in that department. Your open hi-hat is low in the mix, and doesnt sound very solid. My suggestion is to start off with a good quality percussion sample set - something like Thomas Pentons set.

Can't hear much in the closed hat department either, would really fill things out in the hi's if you have more hats going on. You might also want to look into a crisper snare, and some other percussion to add to the whole flow of the track.

Tip #1 - don't boost freq's. Use samples that have the freq range you're looking for already, and then cut/carve those samples to fit into your mix.

Tip #2 - Import a section of a track that you like into your project, to compare levels of that track to what you are producing and see if you're somewhat on the right track. Also using a spectrum analyzer to get an idea of the released track in comparison to yours can give you a basic idea of what your track should look like.

hey there again, i followed your advice and compared my track with an analyzer to the "wannabe sound like that track"

here is the picture:
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc44/orgytime/mixing-mastering.jpg?t=1209741506

as you can see, im far away, from the goal.
so i used Kjährhus-EQ for mastering (whole wav file^^). and it looks nearly identical to the proffesional track.

but im i right, that this isnt the right way to mix tracks? i have to do that mixing before i got the wav file, right?

You're welcome. I suggest you not look into any 'mastering' at the moment, and concentrate on getting the mix right to begin with.

There were some nice mix/production videos posted in the production section - check those out, I remember them having some pretty good tips.

Try to use a spec analyzer thats a bit easier to look at and understand straight off - like Voxengo SPAN.

Like I said, don't push any eq's. Look at the basic spectrum shape of a pro track and compare it to yours. Fill out any big holes you might have in yours either by pushing instruments up in the mix (volume), or adding extra sounds that fill those gaps for more of a 'full' sound if thats what you're after. Ofcourse you are going to have slightly less busy sections where this doesnt apply though.

Also looks like you have a lot of sub bass going on there. Go through all the 'mother of' threads in the production section, that should help you out a bit more.

Hope that helped.
