Last week at Sonica2006 which was really nice (wish I was still there) in the night from saturday to sunday around 3/4 o clock in the night at the Chillout stage, I heard this great Bob Marley Remix.

It was a remix of Bob Marley's Iron, Lion Zion song.

Would anyone know which song I'm talking about?

Hmm I know some other songs (Exodus, Africa Unite, Put It On, ...) that are remixed but not Iron, Lion Zion.. Sorry, but now I'm curious too !

Btw, it was a groovy loungy track, but not TOO loungy.
It ended with a funky melody, with a synth playing the melody line of the vocal.
I really need to have this song, if it has been released yet.

I bought the original cd single when it came out and I think there is a 12" remix of the track on it which is a bit more electronic/dancey sounding...don't remember the track featuring on the Bill Laswell "Dreams Of Freedom" remix project - but it's worth a purchase especially for the One Love remix which is stunning!!!

so so? say whhaaaaaaaat!

i think it's a wonderful album and anybody who likes ambient, dub or bob marley (or better yet all three like me ) should atleast give it a listen (next logical step: buy that damn cd)

here's some info on the album:

Dreams of Freedom: Ambient Translations of Bob Marley in Dub

Release Date: 1997
Genre: Reggae
Label: Island
Total Time: 66:50
Artist: Bob Marley

Review
To coincide with the electronica revolution of the late '90s, Bill Laswell remixed a number of Bob Marley records as ambient dub for the Dreams of Freedom: Ambient Translations of Bob Marley in Dub album. If these songs were remixed by any other producer, the results could have been disastrous, but Laswell is one of the masters of intellectual dub -- he knows what to take out and what to add, creating a spacious, cavernous mix that is provocative without being extreme. Some longtime Marley fans will balk at the very idea of the album, but the results are undeniably impressive, even if it's a little too restrained and cerebral to qualify as first-rate ambient dub for clubs. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

definetly "so so".
dubreggae for "tourists", as jamaican people would say

its dull, since its far from nice and heavy dub nor good ambient. Its just another "bob marley post mortem" Cd idealized by his vampire family to generate money, but obviously without any soul. I`m pretty sure a lot of bill laswell fans got disapointed with this album, the man has so many good dubs in his currriculum, but that one lacks "meat".

I even fell that "Dub Marley", recorded by the wailers in France circa 75, is more original and authentic, even dough it lacks quality. anyway, some pearls like "concrete Jungle (instrumental)" rock the house all the way, and everything sound "rootsy" and heavy.

But fi ya lookin fi di good Marley Dubs, the answer is just one: VINYL. There are plenty of 12"s and 7"s, jamaican press, with the original bob marley songs in Side A, and the dopey versions (dubs) in side B. Those dubs we`re edited by the authentic dub masters (lee perry and cia) with bob approval, and they sound fat as the original tracks and really psychedelicious. Search for Island original 70`s vinyl, there is also the Disco 45 series (12"s), and you shall be more than happy. lost treasures, nice quality and press...
You can find dem at www.ebreggae.com or www.turntablelab.com

Ah, check also Radikal Roots stuff, they have re-edited a bunch of cool stuff in a killargh way, including some Bob Marley songs. only vinyl, obviously

well, I guess this thread has been hijacked...I didn't like the album at all when I first got it, probably didn't listen to it for a couple years, then it has grown and grown on me. I actually have it on cd and vinyl now...it's a tricky project to drop the bass and serious groove out and maintain the spirit of the tracks, but i think laswell pulls it off.
Although I generally strongly prefer the earlier-middle era marley material, esp. the when lee perry was producing, I think laswell's selection of later era marley was perfect for the project. The stripped down choruses really maintain the heart of the songs over nice and subtle (mostly) ambient textures. Guess I'm a tourist too!
