hi iv just bought a pair of akg k271 headphones for £115 about 5 weeks ago because i have no option but to use headphones, although i do have monitors, i have no room to use them in. anyway, they took abit of getting used to and they are now starting to sounds really nice as they take a while to wear in, but i love them and would recommend them. |

Audio Technica ATH-M50. I got the straight cable ones. I use them for listening and production & nothing in that price range compares.
No matter what headphones you purchase you'll want to consider a relatively good headphone amp as well.
I did a post in the equipment section about headphones for production. Have a good read of it.
I'll use the M50's for now but eventually will move to the Beyerdynamic range. I just can't justify $400+ on headphones for now.

have dt 880 pro , ath m50 , akg 701 all capable..
ath m50 and akg 701 really complete well each other (one open bass light and super detailed in mids and highs other closed with good infos on the low ends and punchy soft sound ) these 2 are my fav cans (also used dt 770 pro , i m not a big fan of beyer personaly ,just my taste but find these still very useful so i keep the 880 pro but use it a lot less than the other 2)
ath m50 for the price are great but a pair of open can to complete them is welcom imo, akg 701 or maybe hd 600 |

People say the ath50 are abit bass heavy tho.

yep not really flat and a bit flattering but these translate good wihtout much hassle in term of frequency balance... a bit bass heavy is not necessary bad and can be a strengh imo it put some focus on details there at the expence of less detailed mids |
