I think we all should learn from this somehow. I would hate to see my stuff been stolen out there ,however i think we should give an chance for the guy to explain himself .He seems to be an concern about the fact and willing to explain himself ,so let’s give the guy an chance and learn of possible future incidents . With all that said , i haven’t seen the art copied on the site from daya , the link seems to be down already .
Dj Fantapsy would u mind posting the link of the website where u bought the art ? i believe we should at least contact this person and find out more.
Please forgive me if i put u in a uncomfortable position ,but i think we all can benefit from mistakes ,including you ,been more careful next time u purchase art online .

Yes it is all very unfortunate. My supplier buys backdrops from a small shop in India called Groovy UV and sells them from his own website. There are hundreds of different designs including those which people have commissioned - i.e people can take any design they want into the shop and have it painted as a backdrop. Quite clearly someone has taken Daya's design to the shop and had a backdrop made. The design has then been kept as part of the painter's repetoire as the more designs they have the more money they can make and in India there is a lot of competition. There is however very little regulation or way of checking any copyright and it is impossible to know who originally requested the design, it could have been any traveler from anywhere at any time. It's unfortunate but it happens, look how many times the Mona Lisa has been reproduced!
As I said, I'm just trying to make a little money to pay for the running costs of my website. No theft, no underhand tactics, just simple buying and selling.
When this all started I immediately explained the situation, I contacted Daya and gave him the details of where I bought the design from and where they were imported from. I then took his design off my website and am not offering it for sale. I also contacted my supplier and explained the situation and he agreed it was unfortunate and agreed to take the design off sale too. I can't do any more than that.
I'm just a little disappointed that instead of contacting me directly to discuss the problem people just started making accusations and calling me a thief and a liar. I have been as honest, open and helpful as I can be about all this and I'm very sorry to Daya that his work has been reproduced without permission but what can I say, I saw a design I liked and wanted to sell it. I had no way of knowing that the design 'belonged' to someone else.
Now that this has come to light it has been dealt with so I hope that the matter is closed.

If it wasn't you then I would have apologized first but you should have given me the website and their contact information (he should have if he buys from them) in the beginning (because you gave it to me in your second PM (Dj Fantapsy Sent: January 05 11:27) after my 4th posting (January 5, at 00:16 ) Instead you chose to contact your supplier friend first to save and warn them to take my artwork down from http://www.groovyuv.co.uk when really you should have been supportive of victims to do a proper action to them. I love the way you say "immediately" to save your image with the public.

So I am off, I am not argue with conspiracy game, cuz if I do, I become apart of it.          founder http://www.enkienterprise.com

Like I said man, what more can I do? You bought this to light at 9.40pm on Jan 4th and less than 2 hours later when I first found out I took your design off my site, how much more immediately do you want? I also contacted my supplier (who is also not 'the thief' but an importer) to tell him that the design was copyrighted and that he too should remove it from sale, which he did. Just for the record, as again you are making accusations without any evidence, I provided YOU with my suppliers information BEFORE I contacted him and if you really wish to be petty I can prove that to you.
Anyway, I don't really see what your complaining and continuing to be hostile about now? Within 48 hours of your initial complaint I have had the design removed from sale on both mine and my supplier's site so there will be no further copies made nor distributed.
If you wish to remain bitter so be it but I honestly did all I could for you as quick as I could. The end.

this topic freaks me out... now i am on the case to make reproductions of my work and make sure no idea theiving happens... as in the case recently I have 3 drapes stolen and a few more here and there.. but the recent one is a 4m job which I for sure need to make sure it aint copied and sold.

Copy rights is the way forward and low res images!

Are copyrights international?

It sucks but people are going to steal designs because creativity is not easy to come by, and most will probably get away with it unfortunately-unless we the people don't accept that anymore-
But just hope for the best and low-res images all the time...
alhtough its hard to advertise that way.

looks like this one was on the same site, not sure if the artist is aware that knock offs are being created

im not sure if copyrights are international.. but what are we going to do.. take legal action on some small family business in a village in India? Im not even sure how to do that and it seems like it would cost too much anyway. This is one of many reproduction places im sure. And that's what they are, cheap reproductions, and they certainly look cheap. I admit it would suck to be ripped off for commercial purposes, but it's easy to see those paintings lack the essence of the original artist.

on the lighter side, it also represents you've been taken into the universal mind. It's also an honour somehow. The image was so powerful it created itself again! but yeah, would be nice to get some royalties for those images you created! At least they have taken it off the website and shown they are reasonable.

Well so then don't blame those poor villager, because most of them don't even have a computer especially internet connection or an idea to grab these images especially from the psychedelic specialized website that is not even ended with .com or .net. Oh well they might have the connection and they might have been organizing parties (like it seen in the website ). But come on, let us use a little bit of our brain function. I live with them for about seven years, they just take an order (which is usually admitted as the client's designs) from whom might called "leeches" and those "leeches" exposing those poor talented worker as their image cover of their practice. Like Daya says let's take it statistic way!

It's a known fact that the mass-producing backdrop "farms" aren't the most creative in the world... they've been copying spacetribe and other artists for pretty much as long as i've known...

It's a sad truth, but it's somewhat comforting to see that their quality is so low... that i wouldn't even pay 65 euro's for them (though they cost only a fraction of that if you buy them direct)

As an artist i'd be pretty upset... but i doubt there's much you can do...

I've seen low quality copies of works by numerous artists... artists that should be proud that they can create works of art that are of such high quality that the copycats could never reach in a million years.

Psyfantasy: claiming that you only sell those backdrops in large quantities to pay for the running costs of your website is a long stretch... I run several websites (psytracks.com and psygarden.be and more) and the cost is minimal.
