The best sounding Nord Lead if you are looking for aggressive, bitting (FM) leads and them classic Logic Bomb basslines.

Samples up with the next track, as always.

Peace out.

Got it for 350€....not cheap, not expensive either.
It pisses over my Virus TI for them raw ripping FM leads. Yes, a lot more limited, and although we can argue about tastes for ever, it is such a richer, bags of character, nicer sounding synth than the TI.
The filters, especially BPF and HPF, piss over the Virus TI filters.
The saw oscillator is the real deal.

It strikes me how much more "real" a digital hardware digital synth is, that is well over a decade older, than a newer hardware digital synth.

My mate has the Lead 3, had a Lead 2 in the past, but the Lead 1 takes the cake for me.
Brilliant, raw, balls to the wall digital sound. I'm excited and inspired

How does it do squelch sounds?
I'm very happy with my Nord 2, but if you convince me how great the 1 is, then I'll might go look for one myself

I am getting nord lead 2 keyboard next week, thats what I could find around here..

Nord lead 2 has one more waveform on the oscillator and on the LFO, filter distortion, ring modulation, more voices and more analog outputs compared to nord lead 1, new converters...

Its the same sound engine on all synths, but converters are not the same, older converters seem to sound dirtier and thus produce more agressive sound, thats why I see many people prefere nord lead 2 over 2x..

correct me if I am wrong:

Nord Lead 1 - 16bit DAC
Nord Lead 2 - 18bit DAC
Nord Lead 2x - 24bit DAC

So I guess my "new" nord lead 2 keyboard will do the job since I need keyboard too..           .

Squelch is a matter of high resonance settings and ADSR/LFO modulation on the filter. All synths squelch, some squelch better than others. I would go to my Moog Slim Phatty for squelch, but the Lead does it as well, just not as nice.

I am using the Moog MF-102 analog Ring Mod and ProCo RAT 2 pedal and Slim Phatty for distortion on the Lead...dirty as a crack whore

Peace out.

i also still find it the best sounding nord for leads.. it was never my cup of tea but i cant argue that is the best when you need those ripping leads.

i still find the sound of the old novation nova to be superior to many new vas

specialy for deep leads and pads.

i was at a music store in hamburg yesterday demoing the radical sounds accelerator.... mannnn... i want this soo bad!!           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

from modular specifications: 4 assignable outputs, line-level. 18-bit linear DACs, 96 kHz sampling frequency

what I hear around and see in specification, modular sounds more like NL2 than NL1

on the modular subject, copied from colin on psyforum where i asked the same question about its sound compared to the nord lead series:

"Hey Tim Whilst I haven't compared them myself, everything I've read says that yes there is a difference in sound between the NM1 and the G2, akin to the difference between the Nord Lead 2 and the Nord Lead 3; the NM1 (and the NL2) are apparently a little more raw and biting in sound. I have no idea what the G2 goes for these days but it does have some distinct advantages over the NM1, not least in the extra modules it has, including time-based effects such as delay and reverb, of which the NM1 suffers a distinct lack. Personally I'd like one of each However if you have the option on a cheap G2 I'd go for it cos it really is the equivalent of a room full of modules - and if it's too polite for you you can always make it bite with external effects "
