I miss progressive in the styles of:
Old Shiva Chandra
Man With No Name
Cosma
Noosphere
Oszilla
Can anyone recommend anything in the vein of any of these artists? These are my favorite progressive artists, but I really havent heard anything that develops an the style of any of these artists.
Most of the progressive these days seems to be more house-influenced than Goa-influenced.
Can anyone recommend anything that I might not have heard of?

I don't really think man with no name is a progresseive artist,
when we used to play his tracks 12 years ago it was always at the edge od a set...nothing progressive but just pure ("full on")goa delight, time change so does goa trance
I do like shiva chandra, man with no name and cosma and I can recommend you to listen to those ones ( progressive or not ) :
andromeda, soul surfer, chromosome, liquid soul, cosmic tone, optokoppler, altom, sensient, freq, protoculture, beat bizarre, frogacult, yotopia, aerospace, vibrasphere, ticon, son kite, sonnenvakuum, magnetrixx, ion, pion, protonica, logic bomb, bitmonx, ibojima |

I do think that his "Axis Flip" album was kind of on the progressive side of things though. Most of the tracks were under 140 BPM, with one even running at 128. Now, I don't mean that slow BPM necessarily means something is progressive, but as I see it, that particular album is sort of like a fusion of the old Man With No Name sound, and the progressive trance sound.

I was thinking about "Cosmic Echoes" and "Pipeline" when I listed MWNN. Thanks for the reccomends Astralseeker. I love Human Blue but I feel like there is more stuff in that vein than stuff similar to Cosma or Noosphere, which I havent heard anything similar to yet.

well IMO cosma isn't that goadelic but he is beyond any genre he is somthing special it is hard for instance to define non stop album as full on on progress couse it is far from standard progress or standard full on ..and noosphere is just old style progress for instance you can say that Atmos -Cable enable
or Vibrasphere -moonsoon are goadelic progressive just because they have acidic TB303lines or because they sound psychedelic
because back in days all progress was psychedelic
not pussy or gay like nowdays
but agree about shiva chandra and MWNN
try this compilation http://www.discogs.com/release/579594
if you like it i will browse some more progressiv GOA trance
i also miss more stuff like this
my fav on that one is Amenia-Carbon Dioxide
or maybe i am confused with cosma or noosphere because i have different perception in that case try some old Tromesa (or in
UK promesa ) stuff as well !
booM!

Segment FOR SURE. One of the best prog artists. If you like shiva chandra I would also recommend Flyh who have a hard edged progressive style served with acid lines galore and hard kicks.

quite closed from shiva chandra sound ;
bitmonx, buzzmonx, buzz, ololiuqui, sun project ( not lots of good ones ), reefer decree.......
....sensient, asarualim, zen mechanics, (etnoscope ??), (sbk??)
good prog: earsugar
About the progressive aspect of man with no name for sure progressive can have lots of different meanings, and why not saying martin freeland does progressive stuff,
but he originally came from the hardhouse scene in the early 90's and from around 92/98 his tracks were more "full on morning " than real prog (shiva chandra or cosma sound really more prog to me)..
yes "coccoon" can be played in a prog set but the rest of the album does not really sounds like most of nowadays so called prog artist
man with no name is, according to me, the english version of astral projection (and vice versa) and the perfect symbol of what I preffer in goa trance: the morning groovy powerfull trance hymns
...for sure not as psychedelic as kox box but I remember many goa parties in which his tracks were the peak of the night...
...lots of tracks of transwave were pale imitations of mwnn ones.
I hope he will release something soon( and if possible better than the last album

Just jumping in the thread to make a statement. All, and I mean almost all old Goa tracks from compilations such as 'Destination Goa' & 'GOA-Head' has a touch of progressive Goadelic (nice word) in them. To have a psychedelic track progress is a nice way of driving the flight high. This I think pretty much ended when Full-On replaced the word psytrance in many peoples mouth and way of thinking. To be progressive (regardless of the genre Progressive) is very .. hm, lost my self. .. What you say? Lunch?? Coming! *poff* |
