I've never had a dull conversation with him either. We exchange conversation on skype mostly. Just got to hang with him a couple weeks ago here in the South.

Had the pleasure of hearing one of my songs from the other side of the table for once

never mind. I guess the world is just an essentially unfair place and I shouldn't question why some people get a lot of credit for doing nothing and others get no credit for doing a lot (deco people, sound people, security, EMT, VJs...)

but that's the socialist in me talking.

Who said he was a great Dj?

His track programming wasn't bad, but is there really such a thing as bad track programming when it comes to that style of music?

This style of music is a trainwreck, hard to fuck it up.

There was very little dancing. Maybe it was the weather, but the whole weekend I saw maybe 5 people doing anything more than just swaying side to side.

Awww, the swaying side to side zombie dance, exactly where they want you at so they can suck you dry.

IMO it seems you didn't take the "initiation" test that is preached about. This is the message between his words but in layman terms, take dope.

Its great to hear that some people like to protect their temporoparietal junction, congrats to you Shiranui for not being influenced thru Initiation, ritual structure, cult like conversion, brainwashing technique, persuasion and propaganda thought. Its about the dance and joy of music, but who's music?

The closing track on Gil's mix Kali Yuga by Aldous Huxley named "Important Magic" - "So this is one of the great triumphs of modern science, a witch doctor in Mexico will be able to send postcard to doctor Hoffman saying, have important magic to do, please send 100 capsules"

That could be interpreted many ways, sure seems the request for capsules means some persuasion is needed, however, Alberts research is owned by WHO? so add it up yourself. Why not a sample requesting organic stuff?

Seems like a nice enough guy and has a lot of history behind him, I was interested by his story in Last Hippie Standing, I think he's right when he mentioned buildings all looking the same...I wish the artists of the world were allowed to paint buildings; the cities would be so colourful.

If there's any drama surrounding him then it's passed me by.

The Pope, Bishop of Rome and the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church seems like a nice guy too. He has lots of history as well. I could list lots of people who are nice with lots of history.

Really! Since when was perception a secret? You mean to tell me he spent 40 years as a Baba to learn what perception is? He talks about tools and not being attached to them but "using" them to gain personal ego. So he must not be attached to his wife who is a tool that he shouldn't have in the first place to even be a "real Baba".

Am i reading this wrong? He does seem like a nice guy but it sounds like he is manipulating words to justify something.

What is he really saying in the secret? I'm sure there are some Pope, Charles Manson, Psyops, etc. videos to compare this too but they aren't trance related. On second thought, Psyops would fit

I guess that like any mere human trying to interpret his spiritual beliefs it is often full of contradiction & is difficult to articulate in common languages as spiritulaism is south more than just words for each individual. Every religion that has humans preaching it is filled with so much contradiction, and it was why I choose to find my own way of beliving rather than follow the words of another man. In the end all preachers are human only, no matter how far they have ascended, and humans are very limited in every way at this current stage of evolution.

I see Goa Gil more as a person who is trying to share some of his spirituality through the gift of music, and whethe thou think he is a good dj or not is not really the point, it is the journey not the mixing that is important on his parties.

I have always found the more expirmental sides of music to be enlightening than the standard melodic formulas, but each to their own. If you don't like what Goa Gil does then ignore him. It's pretty simple. The psy trance world is so global now that you have many who still preach & play with spirituality in mind.

I'd have to agree with OzMike, you can't really use logic explain spiritual beliefs and they're often difficult to put into words.

I can tell you about what I have seen, heard and believed on a range of Psychedelics but the glue that holds it together and makes it amazing are the things I can't explain with speech or writing alone, they're beyond those forms of communication.

Goa Gil is someone who cannot mix/dj for shit, and behind it is actually a decent human being.

In an earlier thread about him, I told a story about how in Goa he once held on to a jacket of mine that I lost in Anjuna on a party, in it were I think 200 german marks, quite a sum of money in India in 1987, when I picked up my jacket, everything was there... +he told me where to pick it up...

I never was one for Gils antics about how holy a sadhu he is or Kumba Mela bla bla, and I never (not since 1986) liked his dj mixing, that said, the guy himself is ok !           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

How's his selection? I DJ Psytrance but I just play what I like so I can't really judge what makes a good or bad DJ in this scene. I know of some DJs who can't mix at all but are considered legends of their genre for their track selection alone.

I know he plays darkpsy from seeing videos of him...how did he get onto that? You would think given his background and name he would play more warm goa-ish stuff right?

No, Gil started djing in Goa in 85 or 86, and back then it wasn't the warmer stuff, that started coming in 88, it was more heavy Detroit house, and he went on through that legacy, the warmer stuff from about 88 onwards came more from Germany, Holland and England, then in about 89-90 the Israelis came and did their thing...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
