Well,to make story short,I got my first pair of monitors,Tannoy Reveal 501.

To my huge surprise ,the sound doesn't sound that much different from my old speakers, for real I can't hear the difference (maybe a bit more bass).

Is there some way to get the best of them?Acoustic treatment?Good placement?Puting the monitors on some stands ?

From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

yes everyhting you suggested could help. if you want to do it fine get a calibrated mic and do measurments (like the cheap berhinger ecm 8000 that do perfeclty the job, you can buy it from some place on the net calibrated for something like 50$) or buy something like ik arc 2... find the best place in the room with measrument and use treatment..you probably can t go wrong with lot of thick bass traps and broadbands on first reflection points.. then maybe some diffusors but i m not sure on this..i think it work best on big rooms..
then you can fix the last freq reponse problemes with a eq (or ik arc 2 stuff)and see if your mix translate even better

Are the speakers in question passive or active? If passive, are you running them on the same amp as you did your old speakers?           Mastering available here:

No,Active...

I don't get the thing with the microphone. What do I suppose to do with it?Plug it into PC,put somer music ,walk around in the room with the mic and measure the level, and where the levels are higher,is the place where I suppose to treat it?
How do I suppose to treat it?

it s not music it s a test tone (sine pitched from lowest to highest) to measure frequency reponse (you re looking for flat frequency response at lisetning position )

check this site maybe it can help you.

bad situation, sure treatment will improve things but you should already hear a clear difference when sitting in the sweet spot, if you did a real upgrade. maybe you can return the monitors and get your cash back or change over to different ones..

Maybe it is because of the audio card?I have some cheap Lexicon Lambda, and someone told me that audio card is more important then monitors.

Sound card is the issue? What is a good card for begining, lets say low side of price curve, but good enough to work with my Tannoy Reveal 5?           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

only when you have a very very bad soundcard, like the internal ones in a laptop, there is some truth in that. but the soundcard is already quit soon as you spend some money not the weakest place anymore in the circle. i am pretty shure your soundcard is not that bad.           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

doubt its the soundcard, but not epxensive monitors are not really better than not expensive hifi .
i think decent monitors from the one i used you need to spend at least around the bm5a range or a bit more (adam, genelec ,focal ..)

Really? I found the bm5a range to be far less quality than say the Adam range.           Cuntus Maximus.
