yeah amazing cd... some tracks are more amazing than others, but some very refreshing sounds, different than most stuff being released in the chill scene

excellent =)

btw, nobody seems to have noted that at the end of the last track (chant termique) there is a big silence, and then there begins a 'hidden' speech (martin luther king?)....

btw, the little 'booklet' with the explanation from the songs and stuff is somehow nice too (and lol at the quote " You'll never get to heaven if you're scared of getting high")

You're right, but be aware that there are many tracks on this album with featured singers (males/females).. And also that the poetry you hear on Sufani is.. ehm how to say.. like an anthem or I don't know how to translate properly.. of the Qawwali culture..

yes, honey!

but it wouldn't be nice either if f.e. psy tracks would have the same lyrics. imagine
every track with "out here we're stoned" and
you'll get the picture (which could be the anthem for psy culture). dig it, maaan?

yeah, offtopic. i'll stop now.

Well according to the Gaudi booklet, he does name the singers from that Sufani track... Maybe I am mistaken, but Gaudi did not take that from a sample cd, but rather recorded directly from people who were singing it...

and as it has been said, it is a known (and beautiful) qwaali (sp?) poem, so I guess neither ott nor gaudi copied each other..

and in any case, haltya, if you listened to this cd you would see how it is amazing.... imo at least =)

Really good. Extremely trippy music, put together with alot of taste. Thank you very much Gaudi for exposing us to sounds that we possibly might not have heard otherwise. Only got this a couple of days ago, and have heard it a couple of times laready. A full review will probably be in order within a week or two.
Everyone, do yourself a favour, and get this gem.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

i really tried to like it.
but the percussion wich is very loud in the mix doesn't play stuff that impresses me (in fact bores me from time to time)
it's not a bad album but in this thread it is hyped too much

superb album!!....by the way, about the track "Sufani" in this cd: it is an amazing gem that Gaudi released in the compilation "Small world"(Kickin Music)....I remeber that I have bought it in Jan 2002 and I freaked out for the beauty of this song!... for sure he produced this track long before!!! Blumenkraft by OTT has been released at the end of 2003!! ......doesn't matter for me, I was just givin' some more info that i knew about this subject.
Anyway, Bass, Sweat & Tears is one of the best cd in my collection! F.R

i agree 1000%. waaay too much hype. not that it is always a bad thing but this cd feels like a compilation cd. i would have preferred it if the tracks had a bit more in common with each other, something that unified them and made the whole experience more consistent. maybe it is a good cd to listen to in an altered state but i doubt it, the themes are explored too briefly and there are no recurences of familiar rythyms. in any event, i will give it more time and add to this later.

having listened a bit more there is some regret in posting the above. this cd has some really good moments. i was pleasantly surprised to note a mantra can be synchronized to the rythym of "babylon flamenco". i think i will restructure the tracklist to suit me better, and dump the i have a dream speech (which might still sound inspiring in the rural areas, but sounds a bit naive in the big bad city)...

Hello,

Regarding Sufani,

It was said earlier that its lyrics were Arabic

BUT THIS IS WRONG

The lyrics are in PUNJABI. (Language spoken by people in Northern India and Pakistan).

Furthermore, the song is Punjabi Folk Music.

Most importantly, Qawali Music as it is called has most of its lyrics in Punjabi.

After all Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was himself a Punjabi ( from Pakistani Punjab)

And Qawali is form of Punjabi Music after all.

I am myself a Punjabi and I could make out most of the lyrics as they were in Punjabi.

Since it is traditional punjabi, its hard to pick out all the punjabi.

Here's what I have picked out so far.

oh kholo bua sat sle tera lage
oh na kar man rapyiah wala char
khara khota tu bharngia tu sarfat agge
deeva bal ke na ja, hnear ni
kothi wicho ni yaar labh le

bulleh shah tu kode hoja banja waqt de puran lagge
kulli whicho nee yaar labh lae

English Translation, this I got from another source and is not by me

1 Sufani 1 Light the lamp and banish the darkness. - -
2 Sufani 2 In your own hut find the one you look for. - -
3 Sufani 3 Don’t be so proud of your riches. - -
4 Sufani 4 Good or bad you will be tested and judged. - -
5 Sufani 5 Be fair in all your dealings and you won’t suffer. - -
6 Sufani 6 Be humble and be saved.

If someone can get the exact lyrics in PUnjabi, that would be great.
