location is rockin
in response to danvapids comment about 4qs making GMSF more special i have to disagree
maybe gmsf made 4qs special
was it special because it has an alter right in the middle of the dance floor?
4qs may have an illusion of being special, but its not- at least not for me- because any place claiming to be an earth religion sanctuary and then being owned by greedy rude people who werent so excited about us being ther turns me off. some people like illusions, i like them too- but only during magic tricks- most religions are like this
when people are rude wearing a religios mask it makes the situation more disgusting
yes the stones around the main dancefloor are nice, but other than that i dont think 4qs had a lot to offer.
anywho im extremely excited about this- location seems superb

sorry, but i didnt say 4Q made GMSF more special. it was a complimentary, symbiotic relationship which helped both parties. but it doesn't really matter so i won't belabor the point.
and no, for me it wasn't the so-called "spirituality" of the location. you'll find me on the cynical end of that spectrum. it was more about the layout and composition of the land.
no need to get so feisty about such a small issue though... |

There's no reason to get nasty about 4q. There were some problem people but there were also a great good hearted 4q members who were really excited by what we were doing and joined with us wholeheartedly.. and added a lot of energy to the festival. Hopefully some of those people will follow to the new location. I will miss the sweatlodge, and the river. I can't say I enjoyed brushing my teeth around a pipe sticking out of the ground, but on the other hand, when you are all grubby from being outdoors and dancing several days.. there's a joy and camaraderie to brushing your teeth together around the faucet...
As far as the problems that occurred, and the differences in our goals.. there is no point rehashing it now. There have been many great years and it would be a shame to now, when nothing can be done about it, to look back upon the problems instead of remembering the great times we had there.
GMSF has moved on and it makes more sense to put energy into shaping the festival to the new location. The new location looks very pretty but also more comfortable and better equipped than 4q and this might well be a good thing for the festival, especially in bad weather.

here hear!
i had many great times at 4qf (and a few not so good ones too), but ultimately i think it was in both GM's and 4qf's best interests for us to move on.
i look forward to opening the next chapter of the GMSF saga =) |

Sorry to elaborate on this rather trivial topic...
IMHO (obviously we all have largely varying entirely subjective perceptions of what constitutes "special"...)
4Q did make the festival "special" for me. I do not believe it is dedicated to the religious aspect - although I do deem this brought a unique mystic vibe to the festival, and definitely to the property. There are an abundance of other irrelevant to this thread reasons of why I credit 4q as special as well worth mentioning is, as ben so nicely put, the layout of the land is very accommodating for festivals.
I have been to 4q outside of gmsf (wickerman - where I got the virus a few months before gmsf) and although there was no feelings of gm present on the land, I still had a sensational time.
Additionally, I do believe location bestows a vital element of festivals. I havent been out west yet, but I consider(ed) 4q, barrens, and deerfields to be very special land that facilitates transcendent experiences.
Anywhoo I lost my train of thought a few sentences back...but, I am very excited that this shit is goan down!!
I have much credence in gaian mind's location choice! And much certainty in their gatherings!!
Can't wait for the line up! WeEee!! |

I am so excited and so THERE! The new venue looks like a lot of fun --- cabins, olympic sized pool, labyrinth, and a sweat lodge? Um, okay! You won't hear any complaints from me.
I'm REALLY looking forward to this - thanks Allen (and Sharon) for finding a new spot. If there's one thing I've learned in life it is:
The Only Constant is Change.
The venue may be new, but Viva La GMSF!
BOOM!

Whew! So glad GMSF is happening this year. I have no doubt that 4Q was certainly a special place for GM for the fact that it was a religious place with some bad apples (they tend to ruin the tree) the I also have to acknowledge the epic energy and sacred vibe that the promoters and the patrons brought to the festival which I'm sure will be ever present on this new land. Despite the small bad incidents at 4Q, it holds no weight to the amazing experiences there and I look forward to my experience at Ramblewood. WeEeEeEe! can't wait!

It's great to hear this GMSF is happening this year, even though I knew they wouldn't fail us hehe!! It's just always exciting around this time because all of the summer festivals are being announced, and with that the lineups will come shortly after.. and the summer season and all the excitement that come along with it begins!
I'm so pumped for this summer, cuz I'm graduating at University of vermont, hopefully with a real job lined up so that money won't be an issue, and I can go to every festival I would like to!
Thanks GM crew.. you will see me this summer and good luck with the new location and the line up. All the best.. all the festivals so far that I've been to have been top notch and the location will not change that! Also, with being a little closer to NYC/Phila/NJ, a bigger turnout might be expected.
P.s. I am going to miss 4QF, just because I loved walking up the hill and seeing the stone circle as madness at 3:30 am. and as weird as it may sound I'm going to miss that gas station nearby hahahhahhahah... i'm such a capitalist. just because it was so funny and you could tell who was from the festy and WHO WASN'T. it was guys wearing sarongs/tapestries and guys in wifebeaters and jeans looking at them like where are these people coming from? haha. and they had some damn good food that saved my life during those festivals so I didn't have to eat another hot dog.
THANKS GAIAN MIND -- WE LOVE YOU! |

I suppose a separate string attached with a sub on either end would be in order as well.
