First of all i'd like to thanx crystal matrix team (specialy Paulo, Gonçalo and Ana) for this great event and how it went they were an example for many organizers out there , super friendly and super professional above all..
I got there 2 days before it started and i must say i was absolutly overwhelmed with the place i got in the festival site at night and it looked like it had its own energy even before the party started...
On Wednesday the doors opened and i think that all who were there didnt expect to see so many ppl to entry ...
The place was realy beautifull as i mentioned and now it was crowded with beautifull ppl coming from all corners of the planet..
On thursday the festival started with Michelle Adamson live wich featured her crystal clear voice in colaboration with other artists that she worked with in the past, i can mention Beat hackers, Astrix, Gms and ended with a killer electro tune wich would realy be the tendence in this festival, electro is clearly influencing trance.. in this genre i can mention a couple of artist who made this clear, Dino Psaras (amazing 2hours set, i couldnt stop dancing), Shanti aka Juvenile (also killer groove designed for the dancefloor, it fitted like a glove on that dancefloor, and also very influenced by electro style) and GMS (no so my taste because its getting too main stream but for sure they are the masters in quality and sound for the dancefloor)...
Other highlights of Freedom Festival were the dj sets of Dede, Celli, Kristian, Simo, Android, Dimitri nkv, Poli and of course last but least the portguese djs who showed we have killer quality in dj set .Just some could have played in the morning because of their style but i think that wasnt important in this festival... no matter the time the dancefloor was always crowed and u could feel its energy...
SHPONGLE - something magical , undescridable and for sure a moment i wont forget when i'll remember this festival, everyone was danceing at the chill out now where do u see this in a normal party???!!!also in the chill out we were very well represented by the portguese djs who made all fantastic sets, at least the ones i heard...
This was the first big festival of crystal and i think it cant be compared to boom festival like many did because there are diferent ideas and tastes and boom is a more mature festival concept, totaly unique each one of them and i think very special for the portuguese who are represented by these festivals on every corner in the world, in the end only one thing matters... energy !!! and belive me there was plenty... FESTIVAL VIBE
Thanx to all once more for this fantastic days and these unforgetable gathering...
Cya in the next Freedom Festival

Great time at the festival. Got totally wasted on Dirty RUGS, danced too much for my old body, slept too little, ate enough to sustain a hamster, met soooo many nice people and made new friends every day. Stayed an extra few days after the event which leads to my only real complaint - what about clearing up ? By the following wednesday only 1 truck had been seen collecting rubbish and believe me when I say that there was lots of it. It was very windy and rubbish was being blown everywhere, the barragem had plastic bags all over it. As a land owner in Portugal I would never invite these organisers to participate in anything that was left that disgusting. As a former free party organiser in England we had the motto of leaving a site better than when we got there, it won us many friends.

hello, I am 38 years old and towards time that veia as much people not making an effort to be happy and for enjoying the critical moment during these wonderful days thanks will be a experience that surely is going to mark to my life . for my the best day at night began of Friday with lasser proyections that was able to hypnotize to all I publish. and, from infeted mussroom the celebration took a way vertiginous.IMPRESIONANTE good royo that alli throughout lived the day thanks to the first rows to radiate as much happiness line up of Sunday, simply brilliant, 1200´s, astrix, gms, etc. thanks to the organization for the planning of the event and the location, but for proxima to try to put washbasins with water and but distributed by all the zones (people towards its necessities anywhere). and to put but points of sweepings collection, please & thanks.

Hi there.
I had a great time at Freedom, met loads of beautiful souls and without doubts an amazing spot...dancefloor had some amazing times with lots of energy and very positive crowd...was fun and i´ll come around for the next one..but i left the festival with the feeling that it was all about maximizing profit!!!

It is clear how dificult it is to make good profit with festivals and partys in general!
But there was a lack in infrastructure such as shade, toilets, and sanitary instalations in general!I counted 27 toilets for 8000persons...i started wondering!Rubbish in huge amounts in the surrounding hills, everything transformed into one big public WC with the consequent smell and danger at night!
The lack of shade on the dancefloor turned out to be less harmfull then i inicially thought and luckily the weather cooperated those day! But some shade wouldnt have been too much work i reckon...
And i expected better deco from Tribe of Frog...but lasershows turned out to be quite nice at some point..
But all that is more or less ok...but one big thing that i couldnt handle the 4 days i spent at the festival was the music...some liveacts where pretty amazing in terms of performance and quality...but in a general view the music was way too mainstream psy-fullon for my taste. Sunday morning almost every second track was with some dangerous gittar sample in...what makes dancing impossible for me...i remember that i counted that some of the tracks i heard where repeated up to 4 times...and several of them..looked like the Spun Rec. djs where using the same unreleased stuff over and over...the lineup was interesting but was one that would attract as many visitors as possible!
What about a little proggie tune in the middle?!I missed something like that, but how comes around for a festival organized but Spun and Crystal Matrix should expected some Full-on mainstream anyway...but great quality music anyway! I guess for those how enjoy it is was pretty amazing...

So hope that next time the organization looks after some of these details...cause as posted previously you should leave a party spot as good or better then before and is something we keep in mind at our partys in the algarve!

But an amazing festival with a great vibe!

imo was very cheesy and not very psy, through the days I was listening the same track with the same sounds again and again.... and many singed tracks like taken from any eurodance compilation.

go to remember some stellar moments:

Talamasca:

8 a.m., sleeping in the tenth and...fuck! melodies! and even sounds what like the people call "songs". I only saw a few artists "draw" the music (Muses Rapt is one of them) like Talamasca made, only for this he has my respect.

Michelle Adamson:

nice voice

Infected Mushroom:

the last year I saw them but the difference with this time is...they SING ON LIVE! OMG! how will be their next CD? a versus with Britney? Infected Britney sounds cool... where is the psy??? was I teletransported to Eurovision??

T. Suzuki:

people is still on the dancefloor...nothing happens....

Xerox:

time for make useful things, like go for water or clean the tenth of this fucking dust which is everywhere

Shpongle:

I was lazing in the chill out when a friend told me "Shpongle will come here in 1 hour", what good luck! because the line up was a caos with many moved hours, this people of Crystal Matrix doesn't care about the chill out, they only put it because there must be one.

And then arrives Raja Ram, Mr. Simon and Chicago with his eternal t-shirts of TIP (does he use always the same or have more?? btw, we will not buy any cd of TIP World) and the people applaud like in a classical music concert.

musically they were the best of the weekend, they gave up and made dance all the chillout, imposing their tempo and atmosphere, very nice.

Raja said something to Simon and he answered something like "made what you want" and then I listened an old techno track that I never imagine in a trance festival and less from them: Time Modem - Time of the Gathering (BOY Records, 1990)

Astrix:

more commercial products

1200 Mics:

ahhhh they were 1200 Mics?? I thought I saw Scooter...

GMS:

and these guys request $12.000 by set?? LOL, strangely they don't play their Tribalistas remix...

Raja Ram:

he plays the GMS remix of Tribalistas

Hallucinogen:

and now comes my reason for come to this festival, when he started he slow down the bpms and made seat some people (only artists like Posford can make dance the chillout and seat the dance floor without be criticized) the first half hour was very simple, was his style but without known melodies , time to start to worry and then... Gamma Goblins!! in the middle of his set he played a hardcore track from 1994 called Sulfurex don't made by he (was this a "live"?) and ended with the tremendous Deranger

i totally agree with what u wrote...great post about the music that went on at the festival.

from time to time i had to escape from the dancefloor with the feeling that mainstream trance had some eurotrance elements...
not my taste at all!!

i had a really good time in the festival, with my friends, with new friends i met there but i also agree with Danilovix about the sound. sometimes it seemed i little bit eurovision or eurotrance or something, but thats just a matter of personal taste indeed. i also didn´t like the infected live but friends of mine said it was the best live for them. the bigger the festival is the bigger diference of tastes will come...

also some djs playing at 11p.m or 1 a.m kept playing morning full on which was a bit out of context but again its just a plain matter of taste hehe

but again Danilovix indeed funny review

though everyone says this was the most comercial festival i had a hell of a time in portugal at freedom festival, what atmosphere, what place and what sound!!!indeed great job by the org on that matter but there are allways some details the could be better... its the same in every festival , so in the end when i look back and i remember those hot days i can look to the mirror and see my smiling ehhehehe
in music matter the highlights for me were michelle admson opening, xerox and illumination, juvenile, dino, celli, kristian, d vision , T. Suzuki , gms, astrix , ritkam dj set and last but not least shpongle and ott at the chill area which was a the mistery of the festival since u never knew the line up
thumbs up for freedom festival 2005 and i cant wait for boom 2006 and freedom 2007...
Gracias           looking after mother earth sound..

Ok...so it was commercial...it was terribly commercial. Same tracks getting raped over and over... the 4AM to 2PM stretch (from Shift to Hallucinogen) were just too many names to handle...they should have spread out the performers throughout the day.

The sanitary instalations were terrible...the decoration was overall mediocre...no shade, just plain and boring. The dancefloor was V shaped...lol...funny thing is when you went down the hill onto the dancefloor there was a "sweet spot" on that slope, going down, where the acoustic was just perfect!Did anyone else notice that?

The other factor here is that we portuguese are very spoiled with festivals of the likes of BOOM. Therefore any big event like this will always be contrasted with Boom Fest, which, truly, is on a league of its own. There is no comparisson possible. And that's that.

On the other hand, despite all the bad things...it was a great time. I had the pleasure of bringing a friend from Japan to the festival (his first psytrance party) and he had a blast too. Commercial or not, I think the artists managed to somewhat capture the crowd.

Shift,Hallucinogen...best performances. Too bad Posford only played for an hour and a half, rather than the two hours he was supposed to. Shpongle was a taste of fresh air...never seen the chillout move like that

Hope they will mature towards a better festival in 2007...i will surely be there.
